Vels School of maritime studies provide average placement opportunities to the students of Bachelor of Engineering Marine Engineering. K Line and Molta are some of the companies which provide placement opportunities. Data science is somewhat more vast than machine learning as you will have statistics in depth on your mathematics syllabus. It is the branch for those interested to become a data scientist in future.
While Machine Learning involved one to understand many algorithms available inthe market. In this field, the mathematics do not have as much statistics as DS but logic building courses are included for understanding the algorithms.
I suggest you to go for one, which interest you more either statistics (DS) or algorithms (ML).
