Akal College of Arts and Social Sciences, Sirmour established in 2008 is a constituent college in Baru Sahib Himachal Pradesh. This is a co-educational institution which delivers humanities, social sciences and arts programmes. Currently, the college has 10 faculty members and offers 14 courses in 7 degree programmes with specialisation of Music, Psychology, Punjabi and Education streams. It is affiliated to the Eternal University and aims at offering quality education in natural environment at the large and high terrain.
Akal College of Arts and Social Sciences has a variety of ultramodern facilities that may be of help to the students in their learning processes. These amenities include a contemporary designed and well furnished library that can conveniently host 250 students. With more that 25000 books including those from national and international personalities, it has been developed as a curriculum based video and web courses through NPTEL & MIT courseware. In between traditional and online learning, students can use 60 computers with Wi-Fi access available to foster learning. There are also special subject laboratories, sports equipment and a moderate auditorium with a seating capacity of two hundred students, common for seminars and most departmental events. In convenient access to services, the campus has a canteen and a convenience store campus banking with a twenty-four seven automated teller machine.
Full courses offered for full time study in Akal College of Arts and Social Sciences include; Namely, the institute offers 14 courses, which include undergraduate programmes, postgraduate programmes, as well as doctoral programmes. For undergraduate degree, students can choose for BA Humanities, BA Music (Hons), B.Sc Psychology (Hons). Some of post graduate programmes consist of Part I and II MA English, MA Music, MA Punjabi, MA Education and M.Sc Psychology. For those students, who are passionate about research the college provides the PhD programmes in Music, Punjabi, Psychology and Education. Further, anyone interested in library science will find a B.Lib course in the college. The total approved intake for these courses also differs, for BA Humanities the approved intake is 80 seats.
