Al Shifa College of Nursing, Malappuram Facilities Details: Hostel, Campus, Infrastructure, Library, Canteen

The college has a boys’ hostel facility which provides good hostel accommodation for the students. Sharing accommodation is provided to the Male & Female Students. There are separate hostels for boys. The hostel amenities and educational facilities are helping the students for leading a balanced life of study and leisure. The students are provided with a Cupboard, Cot, Chair, and Table. Other requirements have to be brought by the students. The mess will be common. Students shall specify their choice of Vegetarian or Non-Vegetarian. Students shall keep the Hostel Warden informed of their illness to render timely help in case of an emergency. Transportation facilities will be provided to the hospital in such situations. Study hours for the students are prescribed and strictly followed. Students indulging in immoral activities will be punished severely

The college has a spacious library with a vast collection of books and manuals and internet facility for students and staff. It has separate reference sections for both our students and faculties. The latest journals (both National & International), periodicals are available in the reading room

The college has sports facilities for all students. The playground comprises Volley Ball Courts, and grounds for High-jump, Long Jump, Tennis Court, Shuttle badminton, Javelin, and Discus Throw. The indoor game is available in the hostel, students also participate in Intercollegiate sports competitions.

The college has an excellent IT Infrastructure facility for the students. Knowing the pulse of the time, the college has set up a computer center with a large number of computers. A well-equipped networked Computer Lab loaded with the latest software applications and internet facilities give the students ample opportunities for learning the system and practice

The college has a transport facility for students and staff. The students are provided with good transport facilities to enable them to reach Al Shifa Hospital and the other areas of clinical postings in rural areas escorted by our teaching staff. There are four buses, one Van, and one Car allotted exclusively for the smooth running of the college.

The college has a departmental based laboratory facility for the students.

• Anatomy and Physiology Lab:- For teaching the structure and functions of the human body in addition to the classroom, a laboratory with Specimens of parts of the human body, Anatomical charts, and atlases, an articulated skeleton, disarticulated bones, slides, and models of organs are available. 
• Microbiology and Pathology and Biochemistry Lab:- A well-equipped lab setups are available in order to orient and learn the current concepts of Microbiology, Pathology & Biochemistry in our parent hospital and students get a multiplicity of exposure to various conditions and to study the biochemical values. 
• Nursing Foundation Lab:- The lab is designed to assist the students to acquire knowledge and providing comprehensive care to the patients. Students are given preliminary training in patient care at the college lab itself. It is equipped with six adult manikins, one CPR manikin, and adequate models, charts, dummies, and articles for clinical practice. In the first year, the students are introduced to the principles and practices which are basic to nursing in the hospital and community. The learning experiences provided are based on patient-centered. The laboratory is large enough to permit a class to be seated during demonstrations and for group practice, comfortable. The wards and the departments of Al Shifa Hospital provide suitable learning situations for the students. The concept of comprehensive nursing care is instilled in the student. The teaching of all nursing practices emphasizes the underlying scientific principles and methods of adapting there in carrying the ill person. 
• Community Health Nursing Lab:- The students must have opportunities for learning in real-life situations and in which urban and rural health services are being provided. Home visiting bags are available for demonstration and in sufficient numbers for use by the students. The College of Nursing Community Health Laboratory also has an adequate stock of supplies to keep the bags complete and ready. Community Lab is provided with adequate learning materials, family folders, Survey formats, and AV aids. Seventy community bags are available to demonstrate the bag technique and to treat minor elements and utilize them at the time of the home visit. The bags are equipped with all necessary items to provide family health care at the doorsteps of the clients. 
• Nutrition and Dietetics:- The learning experience in Nutrition aims at giving the student a good understanding of the relationship between nutrition and health. The laboratory has space for seating the students and heatproof tables, sinks, running water, and also a cooking unit for every two to four students. The equipment such as a refrigerator, dietetic scale, cooking vessels, serving dishes pressure cookers, mixers, juicers, sieves, grinding stones, cutlery, and crockery. 
• Midwifery and Gynecology Lab:- The lab is designed to help the students to learn about the physiology of pregnancy, Labour, Puerperium, and related procedures. The students are directed to acquire sufficient knowledge and skill in rendering quality care to women in the reproductive age group, with special emphasis on prenatal, natal, and postnatal periods. The students are guided to identify different gynecological disorders and diseases and gain skills in rendering care to women suffering from gynecological disorders. The midwifery and gynecological laboratory is equipped with a delivery manikin, and an adequate number of models, specimens, charts, and articles to improve psychomotor skills under continuous monitoring and supervision. The clinical facilities also are sufficient to help the students achieve the desired experiences 
• Child Health Nursing Lab:- Students are given opportunities to learn about the services available to promote and maintain the health and welfare of the healthy as well as the sick child. The child health nursing lab is equipped adequately with needed facilities. The lab is provided with automatic child CPR manikin, play materials according to age group, an adequate number of models, specimens, charts, and articles 
• AV Aids Lab:- The AV aid lab is equipped with models, LCD projectors, OHP, DVD player, CD player, TV, Printers, Tap Recorder, Camera, flannel boards, Flip charts, Screens, film, film slides, Cassettes, CD/DVDs, Modems, charts, Models and sound systems.

The College we are having well set up class rooms with adequate ventilation and lighting. Class rooms are equipped with ICT facilities such as LCD projector and OHP Projector and traditional teaching tool; black board. There are enough classrooms that have been needed for each program of instruction. In addition, a smart class room is available for teaching-learning process.

The college has an auditorium facility for events and seminars.

The college campus has a very modern canteen and it is perhaps the most popular place in the campus. It becomes very busy during the break times as it is very well equipped. One can buy almost every kind of snack there, like samosas, chips, sandwiches, sweets, cakes etc. and serves meals and noodles for the needy. All kinds of drinks such as coffee, tea, cool drinks and juices are also available there. Moreover it is famous for Avil milk, which deprives hunger to an extreme. All items are prepared in very hygienic surroundings, and have tables to sit on to eat and all the students love to sit in the canteen and discuss the events of the day.

The college has guest house/waiting room facilities for visiting faculty and student family members.

The College NSS unit No.188 is actively imparting values and conducts various activities to enhance the National Service Programmes.
