Bishop Vayalil Medical Centre School of Nursing is standalone institute situated in Idukki, Kerala, India and it was started in 1994. Being an Indian co-educational College approved by INC, it provides specialized nursing education on its a area of 8 acres. Presently the school admits a total of 76 students every year and faculty members of 13 teachers offer a personalized approach possible in small number schools for the students who want to become a nurse. The institute offers two courses: They have a four years General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) course and one years Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing to address various sections of the nursing career.

The school has various amenities aimed at improving students’ stay in the school and also their learning process. Among these are; the provision of different hostel for boys and girls to accommodate students from different part of the country. The campus is similarly provided with the library to support students by providing nursing related literature. Skill based precise laboratories suitable the practical institutional role of nursing schooling where students learn practically in a simulated environment.

The institute also has an auditorium for event and seminars, hence creating a rich academic environment. In order to provide comfort to students and to make them fulfill their basic necessities within the campus, the campus has cafeteria dispensary which has first aid facilities and playing area with sports equipment’s. Besides, the IT related on campus is very good and students are well acquainted with recent technologies being practiced in the health industry.

The course structure of Bishop Vayalil Medical Centre School of Nursing is very concise as it contains two full time programmes. The major programme is the four- year General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) programme for which the college has been given sanction for 40 admission intake. Thus, by following this curricular offer, the programme provides students with sound knowledge-and-skill base that is necessary for professional nursing practice. Also conducted at the school is a one year Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing which has been designed to meet the increasing demand for psychiatric nurses in the health system. In both programmes, knowledge and skills theoretical and practical foundations are laid down to equip the students with the ability to face the reality of nursing.
