Vidyasagar College for Women, Kolkata was founded in 1960 as the flagship initiative of West Bengal for women's education. An affiliated college covers an area of 2.5 acres at 39 Sankar Ghosh Lane, Kolkata-700006. The total strength of students is 1,700 against a faculty strength of 63, teaching 18 different courses across 4 degree programmes. This institute has also bagged the rating of National Assessment and Accreditation Council to show that the institution was successful in its quality teaching processes. Vidyasagar College for Women is an undergraduate women's college with specialisations in arts and sciences.

The institution offers a wide array of facilities that will enrich the learning atmosphere and develop students' potential in all facets. There are over 23,000 text and reference books to cater to all the academic requirements of a department in one of two well-stocked library rooms. A girls' hoste for 42 students, separate from others, offers safety, comfort, and economical stay for its inmates within this institution. The well-equipped hostel, which is situated right next to the college, has a comfortable room, dining hall, and other ultra-modern facilities including purified water and CCTV surveillance. Part of the college, the health and wellness centre has first-aid facilities as well, and the college organises periodic health camps and medical check-ups regularly. The Second Campus offers a spacious courtyard where facilities are provided for multiple different games such as badminton, volleyball, and kabaddi.

Vidyasagar College for Women provides 18 courses in undergraduate, all of which are full-time. The academic portfolio of the college includes several programmes in BA and BSc with honours and general course options. 

Merit is the only criterion for admission. General courses such as Arts do not follow this in their case, as they consider both eligibility criteria and merit. The college has a very transparent admission process that follows the academic calendar of its affiliating university. This institution accepts several board examination results for its admission process.
