The Department of Futures Studies in the University of Kerala, Trivandrum, is one of the kind started in 1990. This constituent college of the University of Kerala is situated in the culturally rich and facilities city of Thiruvananthapuram and has been offering unique learning for over three decades. The department approved from AICTE offers comprehensive course combination that facilitates the transplantation between technology, management and the future. Having a faculty strength of three, the department ensure that every student who attends the college receives individual attention. Today, the institution offers five distinctive degrees at both the postgraduate and doctoral levels – all pointing towards the institution’s focus and innovation in graduate education and research.

Students at the Department of Futures Studies enjoy the use of number of modern facilities which maker learning more convenient. The current collection includes over 3,500 books and 10 journals available in the college library to support research and learning resources. The department also has good IT facilities: modern and essential technologies needed by students are provided. Some specialised laboratories are devoted to the practical application of the numerous courses, the aim of which is to obtain practical knowledge in modern techniques. There are also facilities for boys and girls’ hostels for scholars who need special accommodation to cater for their needs to enhance their stay in the college.

The Department’s curriculum is rich and varied as all the five programmes offered are full-time courses. They comprise: Master of Technology in Technology Management, Master of Science in Data Science, Master of Philosophy, in Futures Studies, Doctor of Philosophy in Futures Studies and Postgraduate Diploma in Knowledge Management.

The admission procedures at the Department of Futures Studies differ according to the programme. In the case of M.Tech in Technology Management Candidates are required to appear for the Graduate aptitude test in engineering abbreviated as GATE for getting admission to this programme. M.Phil programme consists of entrance test and the test contains Objective type questions. The entire process of selection is slightly more elaborate in the case of the Ph.D programme which involves an entrance examination conducted by the University of Kerala With this those who qualify for UGC/CSIR/GATE tests or who possess an M.Phil degree by research and thesis are exempted. The department also brings flexibility in terms of eligibility for SC/ST candidates and persons having teaching experience.

The University of Kerala at Trivandrum has a Department of Futures Studies that adopts an entirely new and innovative approach to higher education. This concerned area of study is technology, management, and the future. The AICTE-approved department offers postgraduate and doctoral programs that are designed to cater to the future complexities faced by students.

For most programs, students are required to hold a bachelor's degree from a recognized university in a subject related to the chosen area. The minimum percentage usually required for most areas has been 55% marks or equivalent CGPA, with some relaxation for SC/ST candidates and those having teaching experience.

Entrance examinations play a crucial role in the admission process. For example, the M.Tech in Technology Management program requires candidates to appear for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Other programmes may have their own entrance-test or specific selection procedures.

Application Process

This has been adapted with minor modifications for each individual program offered in the Department of Futures Studies, University of Kerala:

1. Eligibility: Check that you fulfill the academic and other requirements for the program you wish to study.

Degree wise Admission Process

M.Tech Technology Management: Admission to this program is based on the candidate's GATE score. 

M.Sc Data Science: The department offers 18 seats to this program but does not provide detailed admission information. Candidates are normally required to possess a bachelor's degree in a relevant subject.

M.Phil Futures Studies: There are 10 seats for this program. Admission will be done through an entrance test consisting of objective-type questions.

Ph.D Futures Studies: The admission process for the doctoral programs is through an entrance examination that will be conducted by the University of Kerala. Candidates who've qualified UGC/CSIR/GATE tests or possess an M.Phil by research-thesis are exempt from this entrance. The selection process is much more elaborate compared to other programs.

PGD Knowledge Management: This is another program offered by the department to this postgraduate diploma course.
