The Institute of Instrumentation Technology in Cochin University of Science and Technology, Ernakulam, Kerala is in fact one of the premier institutions established for the promotion of instrumentation technology. B.Tech programme is of four years duration and consists of 28 intakes the course shapes the candidate as an instrumentation technology expert. However, for those interested in a more focused programme, the postgraduate programme-M.Tech has 18 and M.Sc having 15 seats and take two years of study. These programmes are intended to ensure that students acquire both the theoretical concept as well as the practical application so as to enable them practice as professional instrumentation when they complete their studies.
The process of admission which is followed at CUSAT for the Department of Instrumentation strictly admits qualifying students through merit. For M.Tech course, Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering GATE is one of the criteria of admission.

Degree-wise Admission Approach
B.Tech Instrumentation Technology: This is a four-year undergraduate program with an admission capacity of 28 seats. Admission is based on the candidate's performance at the relevant entrance examination. Eligibility generally includes a qualification of 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
M.Tech Instrumentation Technology: 18 seats are available for this two-year postgraduate program. Mostly, admission is granted on a GATE score basis. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology in a related discipline. Selection may also have a bearing on academic performance and on university-prescribed criteria.
M.Sc Instrumentation: It is a two-year postgraduate program that allows for admission into 15 seats. Entrance admission will be based more on the candidate's performance in the undergraduate program with a possible entrance test. The eligibility requirement is that you would normally require a bachelor's degree in a specified discipline of science.
