Department of Instrumentation, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Ernakulam Admission Process

The Admission to the various graduate programmes offered by the Department of Instrumentation at CUSAT, Ernakulam is not biased or to commercialize money and admissions to all these programs are merit-based. Best in its class, the institute strives toward improving education and research for instrumentation technology. The department is approved by the AICTE which guarantees quality education and curriculum at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Usually, admission cycles for these programs can be anticipated to run with the academia year's timings. The earliest or beginning of the new year would usually open admissions for fresh enrollment. The admissions policy gets through the candidates based either on a full merit ranking from the entrance test done at CUSAT or through entrance examinations. In particular, for M.Tech programs, it would require a good score in the GATE examination.

The criterions under which the admission would take place would differ from program to program. Passing the 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics main subjects is a requirement for candidates to be eligible for B.Tech in Instrumentation Technology. The requirement for M.Tech and M.Sc requires that the candidates carry either an appropriate bachelor's degree in engineering or have a similar degree in science, respectively. Selection at this department has a very prudent and merit-based admission policy as it seeks to select the best among the applicants.

Application Procedure

The application process for getting admission into the department of Instrumentation at CUSAT is as follows:

1. Notification: An admission notification is expected from the university to be published on its respective portals and through other media channels.

2. Online Application: Candidates fill online applications through the application form available in CUSAT website, making sure that all entries are exploded in the contestant's online application.

3. Submission of Documents: All eligible applicants will have to upload scanned copies of the following documents:

  • passport size photo
  • 10th and 12th mark sheets
  • Degrees (for postgraduate students)
  • entrance examination score card (for M.Tech applicants, GATE)
  • certificate of category (if any)

4. Application Fee Payment: The payment of the application fee is to be made online through the payment gateway.

5. Entrance Exam: Attend the entrance examination as per the schedule for those programs requiring an entrance examination.

6. Merit List: The university then prepares and releases merit lists using the entrance exam scores or other defined parameters.

7. Counseling and Allotment of Seat: Such candidates will then be invited for counseling to allocate them a seat under merit and chosen preferences.

8. Document Verification: The last phase verification of the documents takes place by the committee of admission in case of selected candidates.

9. Fee Payment: The admission process will only be completed once the candidate pays the necessary fees within the stipulated time.

Degree-wise Admission Approach

B.Tech Instrumentation Technology: This is a four-year undergraduate program with an admission capacity of 28 seats. Admission is based on the candidate's performance at the relevant entrance examination. Eligibility generally includes a qualification of 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

M.Tech Instrumentation Technology: 18 seats are available for this two-year postgraduate program. Mostly, admission is granted on a GATE score basis. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology in a related discipline. Selection may also have a bearing on academic performance and on university-prescribed criteria.

M.Sc Instrumentation: It is a two-year postgraduate program that allows for admission into 15 seats. Entrance admission will be based more on the candidate's performance in the undergraduate program with a possible entrance test. The eligibility requirement is that you would normally require a bachelor's degree in a specified discipline of science.
