Mahatma Gandhi University, Cheruvandoor Campus, Kottayam is glad having its constituent college, the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences which was established in 1996. Co-educational Institute situated at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala India, this is an Institute for pharmaceutical education and research. These include the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) hence the quality education offered in the department. The institute occupies only 4 acres of land and provides only 3 courses across two levels of education in pharmaceutical sciences. The department has a total of 261 students, and has a faculty of 20 teachers, thus giving a good ratio of students to teachers that makes for easy rapport.

Mahatma Gandhi University,has a department of Pharmaceutical sciences ,aims to offer some of the best equipment to its students. Accommodation on campus is also impressive; the institute has a hall and library that stocks all relevant information that is required by the learners and the teaching fraternity. The department caters for the needs of the aspiring pharmacists through offering of modern laboratories that affords learners practical session in almost all the fields of the pharmaceutical sciences. The arrangements of internet connection feature wireless technology commonly referred to as Wi-Fi, for use in academic and research work. It has an auditorium for seminar, conference and other academic purposes as well as computer laboratory, laboratory animal centre bookstore and cafe, telecommunications laboratory and certifiedеte. It also has well-equipped sports halls for indicating the aspects of health amongst the learners. There is a cafeteria on the campus which provide the necessary diet to the colleges. 

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences provides the students a specialised course list within the domain of pharmacy. The institute provides three full-time programmes: B.Pharma, B.Pharma Lateral Entry, and M.Pharma in Pharmacology all the courses provide here has been designed to help the learners master the principles required in their pharmacy courses. The throughput capacity, accredited for the B.Pharma programme is 60 while the throughput capacity for the M.Pharma Pharmacology programme is 15.

Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University, Cheruvandoor Campus, Kottayam has a very comprehensive and competitive admission procedure for aspiring consumers of pharmacy since the parent institution has always been reckoned for quality education in pharmaceutical sciences. The institute is duly recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), thereby ensuring very high standards of education and training.

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences draws up an appropriate admission process whereby the best-meritorious candidates for its various courses can be selected.

The processes for undergraduate admission are two-fold. 50 percent of the seats are filled by Government allotment and the remaining seats are filled through a rank list prepared by the Centre for Professional Studies (CPAS) under the Government criteria. Thus a very diversified set of students with different backgrounds is selected, preventing any tint of color on the admission process from their place of origin.

Application Process

The application process for the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University is variable with the program and category chosen for admission. Given under the overview are the general procedure for application:

1. Governing the one for government allotment (50% of total seats):

  1. Candidates willing to pursue admission under these allotments must apply through the state government's centralized admission process.
  2. As per the guidelines and time frames set by the government admission authority.
  3. Submit all requisite documents as specified by the government admission portal.

2. For CPAS rank list (50% of total seats):

  1. Visit the official website of the Centre for Professional and Advanced Studies (CPAS).
  2. Fill the online application form for the program of choice (B.Pharm or M.Pharm).
  3. Upload all necessary documents: academic certificates, mark sheets, and other required credentials.
  4. Pay the application fee through the prescribed mode of payment.

3. For M.Pharm Pharmacology applicants:

  1. Applicants should have appeared for GPAT; it carries 75% weightage in the selection process.
  2. In case the applicant does not have GPAT, admission may be granted on the basis of B.Pharm performance.
  3. Submission of an attested copy of mark sheets of B.Pharm along with the application.

4. For applicants of B.Pharm Lateral Entry:

  1. D.Pharm mark sheets and certificates should be available.
  2. The application has to be made through the proper channel indicating the D.Pharm aggregate marks.

5. General requirements:

  • Latest Passport-size photographs
  • Valid proof of identity
  • Domicile certificate (if needed)
  • Caste certificate (for reserved category students)
  • Any other documents specified by the institute or government admission authority.

6. Post-application:

  1. Check the current status of the application through the mentioned application portal or data channels.
  2. Prepare well for any possible entrance tests/interviews engaging the same line, if any.
  3. Await the publication of a merit or rank list.

7. However, when selected:

  1. The selected candidate is expected to report to the institute for document verification and the entire admission process.
  2. Deposit the amount towards admission fees within the stipulated time.
  3. Attend the orientation program and commence studies.

Degree-wise Admission Procedure

B. Pharm: The application for B. Pharm at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is for an intake of 60 students, approved by the appropriate authority. The admission process for B.Pharm is fairly divided. 50% of seats are filled through Government allotment while rest get admission according to a rank list made by CPAS under government criteria so as to assure the best balance of the admission process.

M.Pharm Pharmacology: M.Pharm Pharmacology has a sanctioned intake of 15 students. The admission process for this postgraduate course is also divided, here the state government allots half of the seats. The remaining half of the seats are filled by preparing a rank list based on B.Pharm marks (weightage of 25%) and valid GPAT score (weightage of 75%). Candidates are also considered when applicants with GPAT qualification are lacking, thereby extending more opportunities to a wide range of applicants.

B. Pharm Lateral Entry: A B.Pharm Lateral Entry is another kind of program that the institute offers. Admission eligibility into this lateral entry program is based on the cumulative marks obtained in the D.Pharm (Diploma in Pharmacy) course. This lateral entry direct access to the second-year B.Pharm course provides an avenue for upgrading educational qualifications of persons with relevant diploma qualifications.
