Government Brennen College, Thalassery Facilities Details: Hostel, Campus, Infrastructure, Library, Canteen

The College has a current men’s hostel has established in the year 1957 along with heritage blocks. The hostel is having 20 rooms with an intake capacity of 60 students. At present there are 40 students from different districts of Kerala and Lakshadweep There are facilities for students belonging to students with special needs. A few staff members in the college are also staying in the hostel. All rooms are very spacious equipped with sufficient furniture. A separate toilet facility is also made available for staff and students. A dining hall and kitchen running in the hostel for all inmates. There is a menu for food on daily basis. Newspaper and Cable TV connections are also provided for inmates.

The College has a offers girl hostel an on-campus residential facility for girl students and staff at the women’s hostel. One woman faculty member is appointed as the Resident tutor for the women's hostel. At present, the hostel has two wings one for Undergraduate students and One for Post Graduate students. The UG Hostel has rooms with an intake capacity of 40 students. The rooms are sufficiently spacious and furnished with a bed, table, and other basic requirements. The PG Intake is now extended to 30. The construction of a new block for UG students started with the KIFBI project of the Government of Kerala.

The college has a Gym facility for the students. A Multi gymnasium is attached to the hostel for sports students. Apart from Multi gymnasium weight training facility also made available in the gym.

The college has a library facility for all students. The Central Library of Govt. Brennen College, Thalassery is the heart of the college and has a special place in the world of higher learning and research. The library established in 1958, has relocated into a separate, more spacious building in 2019, tries to prove itself to be the most dynamic library in providing professional assistance to students and faculty in their academic activities. In addition to providing academic materials, the library also delivers various information and research services like finding and organizing information and interpreting information needs.

The College has a physical education department of Government Brennen College is one of the leading centers of sports in Northern Kerala. It has enough facilities for sports training and fitness. The department has the following

The College has 4 computer labs functioning in the college. Three are associated with departments One each for Mathematics, Statistics, and Commerce. The Major computer Lab works with 20 computers and its functions from 9.30 AM to 4.30 PM. Among them all systems are having Windows operating system with license, All the systems are connected with local area network with internet facility. The lab is having a BSNL broadband internet connection with a speed of 100 Mbps. A highspeed switch (Gigabit) has been used to connect the systems to get maximum data flow between systems. A 10 KVA UPS has been installed in the lab to get a minimum 5 hours backup for all the systems. The lab is also equipped with a Photostat machine (connected to the server) and a Scanner for instant printing and scanning.

The College canteen well-established canteen is functioning in a separate building within the campus. It is managed by a team of women members from a Vanitha Unit of MahimaKudubasree. The Building for the canteen was constructed with the financial support of MLA’S SDF – 2001-2002 of Sri KodiyeriBalakrishnan MLA. Students and staff can have food that is hygienic, nutritious, and tasty at a reasonable and reduced rate. The meals include breakfast and lunch. On special occasions, it will work during holidays. There is a separate dining room for the students and the staff. The current building supports seats for 42 students and 32 staff Canteen is open from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm. A committee Convened by Dr. Rajani, Faculty of Malayalam Department is constituted for monitoring the day-to-day and overall functioning of the canteen and to ensure the general discipline.

The Government Brennen College has a well-furnished auditorium with a seating capacity of 800. It was established in 1970. It is well furnished and has attached toilet facilities. It is a multipurpose hall used for meetings and large conferences. Further can be converted as rooms for examinations without disturbing running classes. It hosted the Kerala Science Congress held on this campus in January 2018.

The college has a departmental-based laboratories facility for the students.

The college has good networking for the alumni association.

Wi-Fi facility in the campus makes accessing online materials easier

A cooperative store is running in the college. It works under the guidelines of the Cooperative Department. It supplies textbooks and stationery items to students and faculty members. It is also provided with a Photostat machine.
