Tripura based Government College of Art and Craft, Agartala was set up in 1975 with the purpose of nourishing the artistic souls of the state. An annual student strength of 190 and faculty strength of 8 enables the college to give proper individual attention to its students. Apart from library, the college offers, well-equipped sports complex for the overall development of physical health, an auditorium to conduct functions, seminars etc. The institution also has a very active alumni association that provides the students with contact, with graduates that might offer them opportunities in the future art related markets.
The college has a total of 5 programmes, all of which are full time programmes The courses offered are as follows; These are four BVA in painting, sculpture, Advertising design and Art History, each taking four years to complete. Also, it offer Diploma in Visual Arts that takes for 3years. The total student capacity for all the programmes offer is 190. This limited intake helps in making the education very personalised for the students. Due to its dedication to Visual Arts as an education area, the college has an extensive course catalog that splits the instruction between the technique and the science of the art.
Getting admission into the Government College of Art and Craft, Agartala, is very competitive, especially because the aim of the college is to source for students with a burning passion for the visual arts. Thus, in the case of all the offered courses including BVA programmes and Diploma in Visual Arts candidates are enrolled on the basis of their performance in the Common Admission Test in the college.
