This college is apart of Government College of Education, Vellore, founded in the academic year 1955-56, the institution is to build the future of education. This affiliated college is perfectly located in Gandhinagar, Katpadi with an extensive area of land cover of 8.73 acre which contributes in providing suitable environment for learning. Recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) the college is well known for its excellent teacher training academic programmes. In terms of number enrolment, out of the total student intake of 199 general, the institution enables each student and faculty member to focus better because of moderate student- faculty ratio of 11 general. To support the mentioned approaches the college provides two programmes for students to receive specialised degree, thus it underlines targeted preparation of teachers.

The Government College of Education, Vellore, offers two comprehensive full-time programme: Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and Masters in Education (M.Ed). All these programmes are well packaged with the aim of equipping the students for fruitful careers in the education industry. B.Ed programme which intakes one hundred students offers basic knowledge and skills in teaching and learning processes as well as educational theories. The M.Ed programme is a postgraduate programme intended to provide advanced professional education to 50 students to prepare them for leadership responsibilities in the practice of education. The duration of both programmes is two years to give time for closer study and experience. The total student enrolment figure across the various courses conducted in the college is 199UDMIA therefore has a policy of ensuring it offers adequate class sizes so that the teaching and learning should easily take place.

Students in the Government College of Education, Vellore, are selected based on merit, as well as on a first-come, first-served basis. It is the same for the B.Ed programme where admission is given on the basis of marks scored in the qualifying examination and/or entrance test.
