Government College of Education Vellore is a premier institute that provides quality education and training to the future teachers. The college offers under graduate and post graduate courses in teacher education and is accredited by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). 

The admissions are merit based and are as per the policies laid down by the state government, the Union Territory administration and the affiliated university. The academic year commences in June-July and the admissions are carried out in the preceding months.

Qualifications differ for each course. To be eligible for the B. Ed course, you must have completed your bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a recognized university. For the M. Ed course, you must have a B. Ed degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution.

Application Process

The application process for Government College of Education, Vellore is as below:

1. Announcement of admissions: The college announces the commencement of admission process through news papers, television channels and its website.

2. Application Form: Candidates should obtain the application form and fill it out. The application form may be available online on the college website or in person at the college office.

3. Document Submission: Along with the filled up application form, candidates have to submit the documents as required which usually include:

• Marks sheets of qualifying examination (10th, 12th & Bachelor’s degree for B. Ed; B. Ed degree for M. Ed)
• Valid ID proof
• Recent passport-size photographs
• Caste certificate (if applicable)
• Any other certificates as specified by the college

4. Entrance Examination: As per the admission policy prevailing at the time, the candidates may be required to appear for an entrance examination.

5. Merit list will be prepared on the basis of marks in the qualifying examination and/or entrance exam results.

6. Counselling and Seat Allocation: The shortlisted candidates will be called for counselling and seats would be allocated based on merit and availability.

7. Fee Payment: Selected candidates have to pay the prescribed fees to confirm their admission.

Degree wise Admission Process

B. Ed: The approved intake for the B. Ed course in Government College of Education, Vellore is 100. The candidates are selected on the basis of merit, based on the marks obtained in the qualifying examination and/or entrance examination. Selection is carried out as per the policies framed by the state government, Union Territory administration and the affiliated university. The course is of two years duration, and prepares the students to meet the challenges of teaching-learning processes and educational theories.

M. Ed (50 seats) Master of Education (M. Ed) is a two year post graduate programme designed to impart advanced professional education in the field of education and to prepare candidates for assuming leadership roles in the field of education. The candidates are selected for admission to the two year programme on the basis of merit in the qualifying examination (B. Ed or equivalent) and on the basis of the marks obtained in the entrance examination. The selection is made as per the guidelines laid down by the State Government, Central Government or the affiliated University.
