Government Degree College Akhnoor otherwise known as Government Degree College, Akhnoor is an emerging college of the aforementioned year 2005. Located in Vill. Palwan Tehsil Akhnoor Jammu and Kashmir, the college is spread over 42.75 acres of landscape. NAAC accredited affiliated college GDC Akhnoor provides quality education to all its learners. Institute provides 5 courses in 3 programmes for 1,943 enrollments across contexts. It has 29 well qualified members in faculty and there is always a good student-teacher ratio at this college. GDC Akhnoor offers Arts, Commerce and Science streams of education to all the students offering an all round education services.

Establishment and development of adequate infrastructures: The Government Degree College has equipped itself with numerous modern day facilities to complement the teaching activities of the college. The spacious library has books close to 4,000 these include text books, reference books, novels, and magazines, and daily newspaper and journal subscriptions. For the sports personalities, the campus has provisions for both indoor and outdoor games like carom, chess, volleyball, kho-kho, kabaddi, badminton football and cricket etc. The IT infrastructure consist of a well equipped modern computer laboratory with 16 systems aimed at enhancing both computer literacy as well as internet access within the learners and staff members. From food perspective, a well furnished canteen is serving the college community with freshly and hygienically prepared quality and economical foods.. The college also keeps subject wise well furnished laboratories, an ICT enabled class room and also has a medical room with free first aid and consultancy service.

GDC Akhnoor in fact provides a total of 5 full times courses in different fields. B.Sc programmes offered by the institute are three in number while the institute offers only one BA programme and one B.Com programme. The total number of intakes of all the courses is about 1,943, while particular intakes have been marked for certain programmes. The college aims at delivering quality teaching comprehensively in the areas of theory and practice in these courses so that the students can easily cope with any advanced academic or career challenges in future.

Admission in Government Degree College, Akhnoor is mostly done through merit among the candidates. The students who wish to join the university undergo a test in the subjects they took in their qualifying examinations. For the B.Sc in Physics, Computer Application and Mathematics, B.Sc in Botany, Chemistry and Zoology, B.Com, the college itself claims that the admissions are merit based for the mentioned programme.
