Government Degree College Annantnag, was set up in 1950 and is one of the renowned schools located in Khanabal, Anantnag J&K. It’s affiliated college recognised by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), having 32.61 acres of land area. With 5,852 students and 76 faculties, the college provides 32 courses under 10 degree programmes. Of the student population 92% is male and 8% is female at the undergraduate level, and post graduate level has 70% male and 30% female students. These courses cover the disciplines, and are part of the evidence of the college’s determination to offer quality education.

The Government Degree College offers a range of sophisticated learning facilities that seek to make learning more efficient and facilitating among the student populace. The new central library has the capacity to hold more than 59,221 text Books and 3,357 reference Books the Institution has taken N-List on line journal facility. Science laboratory, schools have fitted with standard lab instruments; similarly, Computer laboratory full fill multi-department requirement with advance technologies. As for now acting as an academic and cultural forum, there is an auditorium that can accommodate up to 500 people. To enhance student welfare, the college provides a boy’s hostel with a capacity of 250 students’ with some of the facilities such as DTH, WiFi connection, and solar energy. 

At present the courses offered by the Government Degree College, Anantnag are vast enough from various fields. Presently the institute offers 32 courses of undergraduate and postgraduate levels for students. Undergraduate programmes are familiar courses like B.Com, BCA, BBA, B.Sc in different fields of study, and various BA honours to choose from. For postgraduate studies, the college provides masters in computer applications or MCA Programme. All courses offered are full time courses and this is in line with the institutes provision of intensive training programmes. The courses offered in the college are diverse and offered for a total intake of 5,852 students meaning the children have a fair chance to peruse their passion.
