Government Dental College Thiruvananthapuram, was started in the year 1959 and it is one of the best Dental College in Kerala state of India. Like many other affiliated colleges in India it is approved by the Dental Council of India (DCI) guaranteeing the students quality dental education. The college provides education at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels with student enrollment of 325. Learners sourced from different parts of the country and across the world, with 76% at undergraduate levels while the remaining 24% being postgraduate learners. The college has 49 faculty members which make the student-teacher ratio very favorable. The institution is famous for its dedication to dental learning and proffers specialisation in Conservative Dentistry, Oral Medicine and Radiology, Oral Pathology and Microbiology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
The college avails some crucial amenities for the learning of the students including the academic and the practical. These are among a well-equipped medical hospital which offer practical training to aspiring dental physicians. Thus, the library plays an important role in learning process and has many dental literature and research facilities. Moreover, facilities of present day technological nature have been developed, and to ensure that the technological tools and resources adopted in the college are relevant to the current day dentistry practice, a modern college I.T. facility has also been developed.
Government Dental College, Thiruvananthapuram is well equipped to provide a number of dental courses with special concentration on the full time basis. The BDS is the flagship course offered and is an undergraduate course that takes five academic years offered to fifty students on an approved basis. For post graduate studies the college offers Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) in the following; The value of the total student enrollments including all courses offered is regulated to increase instructional quality and provide due attention to individual student needs.
The admission requirements for participating at Government Dental College, Thiruvananthapuram are stringent, and the admission is done by merit. For the BDS programme, the admissions are very competitive, done through the NEET UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate) score for the candidates. For postgraduate level, the college accepts the scores of NEET MDS (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Master of Dental Surgery).
