Government Engineering College, Karwar (GECK Karwar) is a leading thrust university that came into existence in 2009. This affiliated college is located at Majali Village, Karwar Taluk, Uttara Kannada District of Karnataka state and it occupies an area of 14.34 acres. GECK Karwar is recognized by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) which provide quality engineers in our nation. The college is currently hosting a total of 597 students with the assistance of 12 members of the faculty. In GECK Karwar, four full-time BE programs are there, which have a span of four years to produce well equipped engineers of different fields.

It is mandatory that, the college strives to ensure it offer adequate facilities that will help facilitate learning environment in order to enable the students achieve their intended academic and personal needs. The library of GECK Karwar contains book stock of 7612 books out of which there is also SC/ST Book Bank sanctioned by Social Welfare Department of Karnataka Government. This extensive collection is complete with additional contributions from students, faculty and other well-wishers. This college has got modern and well equipped laboratory for each department focusing on practical teaching to the students. 

To eradicate health problems within the community around the institute and its students, GECK Karwar has a health center with first aid services. IT infrastructure is well developed in the campus so students are facilitated with most up-to-date technological gadgets. The institution provides for various sporting facilities for use by the students in an effort to balance for their time. Further, the college assures adequate student’s hostels for both sexes to live in while pursuing their courses away from home.

The government engineering college in Karwar presently has four full BE programmes, out of which each programme is dedicated to offer complete technical training in the respective sectors. These programs are BE Mechanical Engineering, BE Civil Engineering, BE Electronics and Communication Engineering and BE Computer Science and Engineering. The Department has 240 student intakes for each of the courses in the various programs, with an overall capacity for each course at 60 students. Due to this wide field of engineering specialties students can select a particular area of interest and their desired career path. This is well demonstrated in the provision of full-time regular courses that are designed to ensure that students acquire broad and intensive knowledge in their chosen disciplines together with practical exposure.

The admission to the courses offered at this college follows the guidelines laid down by the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) mostly. This is the examination that is open to intending students at the state level and is the common door through which candidates gain admission to this college and gain admission to the engineering courses. Admission is done through competitive examination, where KCET tests the candidate’s performance on subjects that are important for learning engineering programs guaranteeing a proper background to a chosen course.
