Government Polytechnic College Batala is one of the premier technical colleges situated in Batala of the Punjab state and the institution got its birth in the year 1964. Founded affiliated college, which is recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), aims to provide a number of diploma courses among engineering disciplines. Located on a vast area of 23 acres, the college admits students of 411 in total and 25 faculty members. Recognised for its focused approach towards technical education, the Government Polytechnic College, Batala, has been preparing the budding engineers of the nation for the past five and a half decades.

Another thing that the college is proud of is the fact that it has a favourable learning environment being equipped with quality infrastructure. Students have the practical advantage of effectively teaching laboratories fully equipped to meet the diverse needs of engineering students. The books that the library has collected over the years are nothing less than 25,805 volumes of reference books, text books, and other allied materials on engineering and the related branches. It also opens doors to regular magazines, encyclopaedias, and other digital databases that make the place quite vibrant academically. The facility for those in sports and fitness is well developed, for the college has a basketball court, volleyball ground, and other fields for hockey, cricket, and football. The fitness centre is placed within the territory of the college, so the students can maintain themselves both physically and academically.

GPS Batala presents five diploma full-time courses in engineering having a duration of three years each. Some of these programmes are civil engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, mechanical engineering, electronics and communication engineering, and chemical engineering. The college has a stable number of intakes of 54 students for a particular course regarding all the programmes offered, with a total of 270 seats. This approach pays a lot of attention, and all enrolled students receive quality education throughout their study programmes.
