Government Women's College, Sambalpur Admission Process

Government Women's College, Sambalpur, is one of the most prestigious institutions imparting education to women in Odisha. It is affiliated to Sambalpur University and runs a number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in various subjects under both the Arts as well as Science streams. The admission procedure at Government Women's College is quite fair and, therefore, is open to every eligible student for higher studies in India. Almost always, the admission into a new academic year process runs either in May or June. However, certain dates may vary each year, but the college admits students on a predetermined timeline for application and document verification, the release of the merit list, etc.

The procedure for application is generally considered to be merit-based and is largely determined from the marks obtained in the qualifying examination of different courses. Eligibility for admission into an undergraduate course is only given to candidates having passed 10 + 2 education from a recognized board.  It would be prudent for prospective students to visit either frequently the college site or the nearest admission office for any further information on application procedures and event dates within the near future, as well as required documents towards the admitted students. The admission process has remained open in a very transparent manner, abiding by the reservations and policies of the government in force.

BA (Bachelor of Arts): Government Women's College has a very wide spectrum of BA programs, with honors courses being offered in English, Anthropology, Economics, History, Geography, Home Science, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Sanskrit, and Odia. Admission to these BA programs is decided based on the marks of the 12th standard examination, while the students must also fulfill the minimum eligibility conditions laid down by the college and Sambalpur University.

B.Sc (Bachelor of Science): The B.Sc programs available include honors courses in Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, and Mathematics. As with the BA courses, admission to the B.Sc programs is based on the merit list created for these courses, using marks in the relevant subjects at the 12th standard as a basis.

MA (Master of Arts): Government Women's College offers the MA program in Odia. Admission to this postgraduate course will depend mainly on the marks obtained in the relevant bachelor's degree. Candidates with a BA in Odia or other related subjects may apply.

For both programs, the overall academic performance of the students counts, with additional preference given to the program-specific subject-wise marks. So, this bring our strength of students to 550, which will further be divided as per the extent of number of programs and seats available.
