Haldia Institute of Maritime Studies and Research is one of the premier institutions in Haldia, West Bengal, which was set up in the year 2002. This affiliated college has a vast 10-acre campus inside ICARE Complex, Marine Campus. Hence, it offers various programs with regards to maritime and hospitality studies, with a total of 5 courses over 3 degree types. The institute has an enrolment of 84 students, who are supported by a faculty of 11 highly dedicated members.

The institute offers a comprehensive set of facilities to the students for a better learning experience and all-round development with pride. The institute has separate hostels for both boys and girls in tune with the directives laid down by the Directorate General of Shipping, and all the facilities are according to the norms. HIMSAR has a well-stocked library besides state-of-the-art physics and chemistry laboratories with fully-equipped workshops to complement the academic pursuit. The auditorium on campus provides a colorful ambiance for varied events and seminars. This institution offers facilities such as a cafeteria, medical facilities with a resident medical officer, a convenience store that caters to some of the day-to-day needs of the students. The library has facilities for the development of physical fitness and recreation through a gym and all kinds of sports facilities.

The institute offers 5 full-time courses- B.Sc. Nautical Science, Diploma in Nautical Science, B.Sc. Culinary Science, B.Sc. Hospitality and Hotel Administration, and BBA Insurance and Risk Management.

The admission procedures at HIMSAR are aimed at choosing the most bright students for its various courses. Admission procedure to most of the courses like B. Sc. In the selection of the course, there are options available under Nautical Science, B. Sc. Culinary Science, B.Sc. Hospitality and Hotel Administration and BBA Insurance and Risk Management, all depending upon the performances of candidates in CETs conducted either by WBUT or IMU. Then there's counseling to ensure that candidates get appropriately suited programs. To add to this, candidates shall meet the prescribed medical conditions for each course, more so courses that are related to maritime studies.
