Handique Girls College, established in 1939, is one of the premier all-women's institutions located in Guwahati, Assam. This affiliated college is re-accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, with a varied undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum. This compact 1.93-acre campus houses a total student population of 2,656, including 96% at the undergraduate level and 4% in postgraduate programmes. The faculty strength is quite commendable with 90 members.

This institution makes sure a good learning environmental with proper facilities. Rajabala Das library, after the founder and the first Principal, is a two storied well-equipped library. It has a vast collection of books, journals, e-resources, etc., and provides a big reading area for students. Other facilities include well-supplied laboratories for practical-oriented courses in this college. To keep pace with the rapidly changing technological world, Handique Girls College established a Central Computer Centre with 32 high-end desktop computers and high-speed internet connectivity. 

Handique Girls College offers a range of courses to serve varied student interests. It offers 30 courses across disciplines. 22 at the undergraduate level and 8 at the postgraduate. The college offers regular courses and self-financed courses. The undergraduate courses comprise BA and B.Sc with different specialisations and professional courses like BCA. At the postgraduate level, the college offers MA and M.Sc in some chosen subjects.

Handique Girls College take admission from students in all of it's course from a process of merit. The admission policy is purely merit-based, which is reflected in academic performance in the qualifying examinations. For postgraduate courses, especially for Assamese, the college follows the Common Entrance Test conducted by Gauhati University.
