The Institute of Physics located in Bhubaneswar is a self-governing research establishment within the purview of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) under the Indian Government. IOP Bhubaneswar was established in 1972 by the authorities of the Odisha state and still receives financial support from both the DAE and the Odisha government. IOP Bhubaneswar has several advanced facilities for sample preparation and the study of various physical and chemical properties of nanostructures and bulk condensed matter systems. IOP Bhubaneswar is actively engaged in international collaborations with top research laboratories such as CERN (Switzerland), BNL (USA), ANL (USA), GSI (Germany), and others. Admission to all postgraduate and doctoral programs at the IOP is based on the performance of candidates on the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research - National Eligibility Test (CSIR-NET) or GATE.
