72 MonthsThe Jindal School of Art and Architecture (JSAA) works from an ethos of questioning and experimentation across disciplines including architecture, design, and multiple adjacent knowledge domains. The School's doctoral programme is seeking to expand the development of design‑driven knowledge, questioning, and pragmatic design‑research methods. We encourage researchers to tackle real‑world challenges from a theoretically robust and pragmatically nuanced perspective to produce effective and equitable solutions.
The programme invites researchers and educators working on any aspect of the built environment to start on their doctoral studies at JSAA. The programme offers a full‑time pathway (on JGU campus) or parttime pathway (remotely across India) for interdisciplinary research, informed by an understanding of the inherited and future built environments – environments understood as discernible processes, built by humans or nonhumans, alone or jointly, facilitated by active geophysical processes. In other words, if you recognise that a forest is as much a built environment as an igloo, then JSAA is the place for you. Students will take university‑level coursework in research methods, critical and creative thinking, design philosophy, and ethics, and school‑level elective coursework in materials and making, as urban studies, and interiors. Thinking will be tested through wider forms of evidence so as to make original contributions to knowledge of expanded fields of trans‑disciplinary practice. International educators, international; standards, and international experience for Ph.D. students are the unique benchmarks of this programme.
