JSS College for Women, Chamarajanagar: Admission, Courses, Fees, Placements

JSS College for Women, Chamarajanagar, which was started in the year 1967 is the leading educational institution for women in Karnataka state – India. Situated on a spacious fourteen and a half acre piece of land, this affiliated college has been training young people for over five decades. The institution that lies in Visakhapatnam, is NAAC accredited and provides 11 courses across six degrees. It is a co-educational institution with a total student population of 1,140 and 54 members of faculty corresponding to a student-faculty ratio. The demographics of this institution supports its education of women with 98% of women continuing their education in under graduate programs while 2% pursing post graduate studies.

The college has a range offering of facilities that aim at facilitating and supporting the learning process and personal development of the learners. A two storey women’s hostel has the capacity of accommodating one hundred and sixty students and comes with standard security facilities and systems. The library being a house for knowledge comprises of the large number of books and journals and periodicals with 30995 in total. 

It has OPAC and INFLIBNET centres along with internet facility and this university has broadband connection with 512 MBPS. Those students who are interested in games and sports Enjoy College has both indoor and outdoor games facilities. A multi gym studio, an indoor games area including table tennis and chess, and an all weather sports complex for outdoor sports facilities and games. Technology is also given much consideration with good information technology facilities and wireless connectivity areas in the college.

In that respect, JSS College for Women has developed a curriculum that focuses on providing every female student with a choice of subject areas of study. Currently, the institution offers 11 courses that include undergraduate and postgraduate levels. At the undergraduate level, choices offered by Universities include, History Economics Political Science, History Economics Geography, History Sociology and Geography amongst others. The college also has the following B.Sc programs in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science, Chemistry, Biology and Zoology. For those who want to go toward commerce and management they can join B.Com, BBA, and BCA. In the post graduate level the college provides one course that is M.Com with total 50 admission capacity. All courses are full time to make sure the students get all round value addition as they undergo their learning process.

JSS College for Women has a simple admission process where the management takes into consideration the qualifications of the students. It is not clear as to exactly how it works regarding admission, however, often the affiliated colleges do take into consideration the performance in the qualifying examinations. The college conforms to the principle of diversity in the composition of the students as well. The current statistics shows that among the undergraduates only 5% are from other state while 95% are from this state and among the post graduate only 6% are from other state while 94% are from this state.
