K J Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce, Mumbai Facilities Details: Hostel, Campus, Infrastructure, Library, Canteen

The college has a Gym facility for the students. With a variety of facilities and equipment in the gymnasium, students can pursue their interest in sports, follow their fitness regime. The indoor sports facilities such as Carom, Chess and Table Tennis enhance the hand-eye coordination; develop social skills and creative thinking. 

The library has a collection of nearly 85234 books. Nearly 3000 books are purchased and processed every year in the library. Library subscribes nearly 50 periodicals. It has a collection of maps, CD-ROMs, audio and video cassettes. Past question papers and syllabi are also made available.

Two large playgrounds for outdoor games such as Cricket, Football and Volleyball. Till date, students have won various tournaments and brought name and fame to the college. Special Innovative Coaching provided by coaches of National and International repute as well as ex-students of our college. 

High-end computers with high configuration. Dot Matrix and Laser Printers purchased Upgraded the computer license of Symantec Endpoint Protection. Fibre optic cable with a speed of 1 Mbps installed for the internet. New Softwares installed according to the syllabi of various courses.

Seven tasty canteens are located in the campus. They are open from 7 a.m. until late evening. All our canteens serve different cuisines including South Indian, Chinese, Continental and fast food. Our Vadapav, masala pav, chat, schezwan rice and noodles, tava pulav, pizzas, Frankie and sandwiches etc are very popular among the students. Tea, coffee and cold drinks are also available.

The college has an auditorium facility for events and seminar. Located on the first floor of K J Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce building, Kalidas Sabhagruha is a multi-purpose auditorium on the Somaiya campus with a capacity to accommodate around 400 viewers / audience. The state-of-the art facility with adequate technical support, centralized air-conditioning, green –room and an ambience conducive for staged performances enhances the quality of the programs organised. Wide-ranging activities right from students’ performances to Conferences, Seminars, Induction Programs, Inaugural Ceremonies of myriad college associations and theatrical performances take place in the Kalidas Sabhagruha.

The college has a health centre with first aid facility for the students.

The college has a good networking for the alumni association. Ex-Som, The Alumni Association of this college, although always functioning from early days was formally established in the year 2010. The main objective being to create a forum where the alumni can give back to the college what they learned from here and bring in their valued experience to be shared with the current students so that “knowledge multiplies”. 

The college has well lit, spacious and ventilated classrooms with Wi-Fi facility, Overhead Projector & Screen that facilitate the utilisation of the audio-visual aids, myriad e-learning resources, accessing online learning material. It promotes learner-centric pedagogy.

• The IT laboratory of the college is equipped with 50 Computers, Projector and Wi-Fi connection. The laboratory attendant and a technical support staff ensure a smooth conduct of the activities such as IT Practicals, Practical Board Examinations, Admission related work etc. 
• The research lab is developed with an objective of fostering research culture among the students. The lab is equipped with modern technology which helps aspirant research scholars in nurturing their research acumen. 
• College has set up a Digital Language Lab for the benefit of language learners. The systems are operational on ODLL (Orell Digital Language Lab) which is world class language laboratory software. The Language Lab has 1+20 consoles of iTell Standard (S2) edition under installation. The Language Lab caters to the requirements of the learners in English Language acquisition. It also proves effectual in enhancing their Presentation skills by boosting their confidence to articulate their thoughts and ideas in an effective manner. 
• The study of Psychology entails the observation of human behavior. This ispossible through careful observation and experimentation. To facilitate theprocess of learning, the department has a laboratory cum class room. Thelaboratory, located on the third floor, is equipped with necessary psychologicaltests, instruments, infrastructure such as tables, and screens. It is a place ofdeliberations, active participation between the students and the faculty members.

The college has given due consideration to the concerns of specially-abled people. There is a provision of ramp, with a supporting rod, at the entry of the building, a separate washroom on the ground floor, and access to the lift.
