Established in 1876, Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health is one of the oldest institutes and a prestigious autonomous institute located in Tezpur, Assam. This specialised mental health institute has been approved by the National Medical Commission. With a sprawling 5-acre campus, LGBRIMH has been the pioneer of psychiatric education and research for more than a century, offering 12 courses across 5 degree programmes focused on various aspects of mental health.
Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health College has a large number of modern facilities that have been provided at LGBRIMH to assist in both academics and research endeavors. The Institute has a well-equipped Medical Hospital with a fully functional Medical Records Section for efficient patient care and data maintenance. There is a central library with over 11,000 books on various subjects concerning mental health and related fields for the students carrying on academic pursuits. Degree wise Admission Process
M.Sc Psychiatric Nursing: There are 12 seats in this program. The applicants should be registered with the State Nursing Council, and they should possess a minimum of one year of working experience after qualifying their degree. The time of the last date for making application will be very closely fixed with the beginning of the academic year.
MD Psychiatry: This program has: 11 seats; admissions by this quota will be conducted using NEET-PG. Candidates must qualify in the NEET-PG exam and also attend the counselling process conducted by NMC-MCC.
M.Phil Clinical Psychology: This program has 8 seats. But usually, applicants are expected to have a master's degree in psychology or subject areas aligned with it, specific admission details are diffuse.
M.Phil Psychiatric Social Work: 8 seats are here offered in this program, which mostly requires a master's degree in social work, specializing in mental health or a related area.
M.Sc Medical Microbiology: This program offers 5 candidate spaces. Interested and eligible candidates should have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field of sciences or gained medicine for admission.
Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing: A program with 30 seats requires applicants to be registered with the State Nursing Council and must be Government candidates from North Eastern states. One year of experience as a Staff Nurse is mandatory.
Ph.D Programs: LGBRIMH has a Ph.D. program in Clinical Psychology, Psychiatric Nursing, and Psychiatric Social Work, which requires at least a master's degree or an M.Phil degree in the relevant areas.
Post-Doctoral Programs: The institute runs specialized post-doctoral fellowships in Geriatric Mental Health, Addiction Medicine, and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, with each having 2 seats.
