About Malda Women's College, Malda

Established in the year 1970, Malda Women's College is an affiliated college located in the erstwhile North Bengal state of West Bengal. This college covers 2.05 acres of land and is committed to providing quality education to people belonging to Malda District and its surrounding areas. Malda Women's College has acquired accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. With an enrolment of 2,667 students and faculty of 35, the college provides a congenial and conducive environment for women's education. It has also facilities to enhance the students' experiences during their stay within the college.

Among those facilities is a well-stocked library that has more than 27,500 books, including that identified as reference material, subscribed in excess of 32 printed journals, and 6 newspapers. E-resources are available to the students through N-List and an attached reading room that accommodates around 50 students. An attached Reading Hall with a capacity to seat approximately 50 students is also available to the students. A girl's hostel, Suchetana Bhavan, provides boarding for around 97 girls; security personnel are available on campus 24/7. A spacious auditorium with seating capacity for around 200-250 students has been kept on campus for hosting any sort of cultural events or seminars. In the sporting arena, there are opportunities for activities through the Sports Committee. IT infrastructure has been endowed with a computer laboratory that hosts 8 computers for the students to use in the Department of Geography. 

Malda Women's College offers 12 courses. All of these are fulltime courses. The courses are at the BA, BSc and BA Honours levels in various different subjects.

The admission process at Malda Women's College is extensive and hassle-free so that deserving candidates can enter into higher education. These undergraduate programs have merit-based admissions. Starting with the declaration of results of 10+2 by various boards, admission processes usually go off. On this basis, the counts of marks reached in the qualifying examination (10+2 or equivalent) are measured by the college for admission to its courses. Candidates are also expected to meet the minimum eligibility criteria set by the college and the affiliating university.

1. Notification: The college publishes an admission notification on its official website as well as in local newspapers. This indicates the commencement of admission.

Degree wise Admission Process

BA (Bachelor of Arts): The college gives admission for general BA course with an applied intake of 103 seats and the admission into this particular program is based on the marks drawn from the 10+2 examination concentrating more on the students whose higher secondary education was relevant subjects.

BA Honours Programs: The college provides several BA Honours programmes such as BA in Bengali, English, Geography, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Sanskrit, Sociology, Education, and Economics. There will be specific admission processes for each of these programs based upon the marks obtained in the relevant subjects at 10+2 level. An example: BA Bengali Honours: candidates must have studied Bengali as a subject in their 10+2 examination.

B.Sc (Bachelor of Science): The college also provides the B.Sc courses, somehow the complete details of these science streams are not available. Admission to B.Sc courses usually depends on the marks scored in science subjects (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Mathematics) at the 10+2 examination.

The college might set a cut off percentage for admission for all programs based on the number of applications received and the capacity of seats. The number of cut off marks changes yearly along with different programs.

It is kind of small college. Mostly cause of having a small land. Otherwise, It is awesome college I think. Malda womens college is only college in malda which is only for girls. There are a lot of paper pens and xerox stores outside the college.
