PSG College of Nursing, Coimbatore: Admission, Courses, Fees, Placements

This group started PSG College of Nursing in the year of 1994 for offering quality nursing education in the field of Tamil Nadu particularly in Coimbatore area. In an area of approximately 10.5 acres, this co-educational institution that was established in 1989 and up to date graduating generations of healthcare professionals. It is a constituent College of Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University and recognised by Indian Nursing Council, Chennai thus maintaining standards of education. Estimated student population of PSG College of Nursing is 391 and 22 faculty members, where the college offers 14 courses at 4 different level of degrees focusing on different aspects of nursing care and research.

PSG College of Nursing offers a very comprehensive list of facilities to ensure that students receive all rounded learning. It has well-equipped laboratories including the models, simulators and the audio visual aids where students practice in controlled environment such as operation compact mannequins. The library itself which can be rightfully called the Heart of the institution contains over a decade thousand books related to medical and nursing profession and subscribes 169 journals thus encouraging the staff and students to become lifelong learners. PSG hostel provides accommodation facilities to those students who live in campus; other facilities include visitors’ lounge, recreation, halls and prayer rooms. This college has also focused on the health aspect where ;Campus tourism’ is provided for indoor and outdoor games like volley ball, basket ball, tennis and has the facility of table tennis andPhysical education teachers are provided for all games.

Educational programmes offered in the PSG College of Nursing have provision from basic level of education to a higher level of education for nurses. The institution offers fourteen courses, full time undergraduate, post graduate and even doctoral studies. The school offers the B.Sc Nursing programme, the annual internal capacity of which has been approved for 100 students, M.Sc Nursing programmes in Child Health Nursing, Medical Surgical Nursing, Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing and Community Health Nursing have the permission to take six students each. The college also offers Ph.D. courses in the various specialties of nursing offered both full-time and part-time. Furthermore, there is Post Basic Diploma, courses that are Critical Care Nursing and Operation Room Nursing which enhances the area of specialized nursing training.

The PSG college of nursing has structured its admission process in a way that it chooses the most appropriate candidates for it’s different programmes. Lack of detailed information relating to the admission process, but it is normal for any nursing college to take into consideration academic performance in qualifying exams, entrance test scores and sometimes do interviews or counseling. It is here that the issue of diversity is seen in the college student population with 95% female students and 5% male students in postgraduate programmes. Notably, all admitted students are currently enrolled in school, and significantly, all are Wyoming residents, demonstrating both local clientele and professional regard. Unfortunately there is no information on the scholarship for the individual students but generally all the nursing colleges have provision for offering some form of scholarship that is either merit based or meant for the needy; the students who want to seek for such comfort need to contact the management of the institution of their preferred college.
