RGGC Shimla, an illustrious college has remained a glorious institution imparting various fields of knowledge in undergraduate programs. Merit is observed in admission steps, with the sole aim of selecting the most deserving candidates for various courses offered. RGGC Shimla has slowly but steadily become a center of academic excellence, imparting quality education to students in various disciplines. In RGGC Shimla, admission usually commences after the declaration of 10+2 results. Marks obtained by the applicants in their qualifying examinations (10+2 or equivalent) are considered for admission into various undergraduate programs.
The institution strives to provide all deserving candidates equal opportunities, thus ensuring transparency in the whole system. The eligibility criterion in matters of admission at RGGC Shimla depends on the kind of program that one is applying for. In general, a candidate must have completed 10+2 education from a board recognized by the university. Some programs may also require certain subjects or a particular percentage, which the college administration will decide from time to time, according to the guidelines laid down by the university concerning different programs and courses.
Application Process
The admission application at Rajiv Gandhi Government College Shimla is made simple and features the following sequential steps:
1. Notification: The college informs applying students about the commencement of the admission process on its official website and local newspapers.
2. Application Form: The application form for admission should be purchased by candidates and filled in appropriately. This form is made available both online from the college site and offline from the college's admission office.

5. Merit List Preparation: The college will constitute merit lists for each program according to the marks obtained by candidates in their qualifying examinations.
6. Exclusive Publication of Merit List: The exclusive publication of the merit list should then be made through the college notice board and its website. Depending upon the seat availability and candidate response, more than one merit list may be published.
7. Document Verification: Document verification should be attended by all concerned shortlisted candidates on the stipulated date by the college.
8. After successful document verification, candidates are required to pay the requisite admission fee to confirm his/her seat.
9. Usually, there is an orientation program for admitted students before they begin class.
Degree-wise Admission Process
BA Programs: Different BA programs available in RGGC Shimla, including Admission is based entirely on merit, i.e., in accordance with the examination undertaken by the candidate to acquire 10+2 qualifications. Geography, Economics, Public Administration, Physical Education, Mathematics, Journalism and Mass Communication, Sanskrit, Philosophy, Music Vocal, and Music Instrumental, etc. are at the decision of admission based on merit i.e. marks obtained by a candidate in the qualifying exam; 10+2. The carrying capacity varies for the various subjects; 60 to 240 seats.
B.Sc. Programs: The B.Sc. programs in Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology are offered at the college. Admission into these science courses is also primarily done on a merit basis where selection is done with respect to the marks obtained in the qualifying science subjects in the 10+2 examination. For B.Sc. in Chemistry, 220 seats are approved, while for Botany and Zoology, it is 80 seats each.
B.Com: The Bachelor of Commerce program in RGGC Shimla has an intake capacity of 180 seats. Admission is granted on merit, taking into account the obtains in the qualifying exam, particularly in commerce-related subjects.
BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications): The institution is running the BCA program with 40 seats. Admission to BCA first sem is purely on the merit obtained in the 10+2 examination, especially in Mathematics and Computer Science subjects.
PGDCA (Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications): Admission of this one-year diploma course was granted for 40 students. Just like all other programs in RGGC Shimla, the admission is on a merit basis depending on the marks secured in the qualifying bachelor's degree.
As someone who finished their Bachelor's in Mathematics I can honestly say this college is amazing. The Bachelors of Science in Mathematics course is really well-put-together, mixing deep ideas with real-world uses. The teachers are great and always ready to help students get through tough times.
I have done b.com from there....I have interest in the business line so that I have taken commerce as my stream....our curriculum was updated...they had performed so many cultural activities.... sports tournament were also organised there
The Academic s level of the Rajiv Gandhi Government Degree College, Shimla is good. the completed my B. Com from here with good cgpa. the teachers of the college are well experienced and have great knowledge.
