Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Steel Technology (RGIST) was set up in the year 2006, aiming to be an affiliated college in Bellary, Karnataka. Located at Toranagallu, adjacent to the JSW Steel Complex, RGIST offers metallurgical education and industrial safety training. The institute offers two full-time courses, a Diploma in Metallurgical Engineering, and a Post Diploma in Industrial Safety in effort to meet the human resource demands of the fast growing Taung Steel Complex.
RGIST has a number of training facilities as described below that enable it to provide the best learning environment to its learners. Metallurgical laboratories of the college are well-equipped to conduct practical exercises in metallurgical processes, and safety measures. An air conditioned library is a knowledge center which provides the findings of various resources in Metallurgy and Industrial Safety. Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Steel Technology, Bellary offers two regular programs running under RGIST- Diploma in Metallurgical Engineering and Post Diploma in Industrial Safety.
The admission process of RGIST is selecting gifted candidates in metallurgical engineering and industrial safety. Institute follows a merit-selection process considering the academic background of applicants in relevant subjects. Diploma in Metallurgical Engineering: This is a three-year full-time course of RGIST. It will be an integrated course comprising all the aspects of metallurgical processes-theoretical as well as practical.
Post Diploma in Industrial Safety: It is a one-year full-time program that is provided to the students who have completed a diploma in engineering. The admission may probably consider the performance of the candidate in the previous diploma program, especially in understanding the principles of engineering and the potential for specialization in industrial safety.
