Programme Educational Objectives

• To enhance their professional ability in the field of planning, development and management.
• To gainproficiency in designing and managing projects of various magnitudes from micro level unit design to the macro level regional development planning.
• To learn a balancing act between constructing modern communities and conserving our natural and built heritage to create diverse, vibrant and sustainable places where people want to live, work and play through proper planning.
• To understand Urban Infrastructure Development, Traffic and Transportation Plans, Urban Finance and Accounting, Municipal Capacity Building, Environment and Development Planning (Climate Change, Environmental Impact Assessment, Disaster Management), Housing and Community Planning and Project Appraisal and Management.
• To analyze the past and current scenario of the project so that a better tomorrow can be created.
• To createthe technical knowledge that is required to identify urban problems, inculcating the values and attitudes of planning and commitment to the public who planners serve, and the skills to formulate, evaluate and implement urban planning policies at the national, regional, urban, rural and local scales.
• To develop leadership skills that will help shape the future direction of our urban environments.

Programme Outcome

• To impart basic skills that would help students in their careers to serve at various professional capacities in planning, development and management agencies in the public sector as well as private consultancy organizations.
• The students are also equipped with the knowledge of basic theories, techniques and design concepts so that they can assume their assigned professional roles as members of multi-disciplinary teams for survey, analysis and plan preparation.
• Can become the master in the area of urban planning, development and management regional planning, housing, transport planning, infrastructure planning, environmental planning, design, conservation or in other related disciplines.

Programme Highlights

The mode of education in this undergraduate course is both lecture-oriented on theoretical and practical aspects of planning as well as engaging in planning studios exercises to maintain a dialectical between theory and praxis. Students are expected to be active participants in interactive sessions in class. Writing is the main tool employed for thinking, as a planner is both a practitioner and a scholar. Reading and writing beforehand and regularly, allows you to be abreast with new developments and research trends, think critically and write coherently. The program encourages students to work collaboratively so as to build a community of scholars and planning practitioners. Collaborative efforts allow learning from your peer’s strengths and complementing their weakness.
