Hello,

The eligibility criteria for MBA in IIT Bombay is passed four years bachelor's degree or master's degree from a recognized university securing 60% marks, there is relaxation of 5% for SC/ST/PwD, now if your undergraduate degree is for three years duration then you need to pursue master's degree of two years from a recognized university in order to be eligible for this program at IIT Bombay, also you have to meet the required aggregate as per your category at pg level also, as long as the university from which you have pursued graduation or will do pg is recognized by ugc, there is no problem in pursuing MBA in regular mode from top universities, check out the official website at https://www.som.iitb.ac.in/?p=1536 to know more details regarding this,

Hello Aspirant,

As far as I know along with clearing the overall cutoff you should also have to clear the sectional cutoff of every as well. Sectional cut off evey section is lower than the overall cutoff but it has to cleared if you want to get admission in SJMSOM, Since SJMSOM is the top college for management in Mumbai so it's has its high criteria set for getting admission.

But don't worry cutoff is based on the level of difficulty of the paper, So if you have work hard for the exam you won't be having any problems in clearing the cut off for different sections.

I hope the above information is beneficial for you

All the best.

Dear Tushar, the minimum eligibilty criteria to apply for SJMSOM is that you should have a minimum aggregate of 60% in your Graduation if you belong to General Category. It is 55% for Reserved Categories and PWD. With 73.1% and still going steady  in your Graduation, you make it to meeting the eligibility criteria. And now to shortlist you, for their admission programme, they have sectional weightage for CAT. It is as follows:
                     Overall       VARC         DILR      QA
NC-OBC            81             72               72         72
Now your CAT percentage is also calculated along with other criteria before shortlisting you for WAT and PI rounds. In 2018, it went as:
CAT Performance: 80%
12th: 5%
Graduation: 5%
Gender Diversity: 3%
Post Graduate/Professionals: 2%
Work experience: 5%
3% is for female candidates and 2% is for M.Tech,ME, MS, M.Arch, etc.
Your CAT score is calculated using the formula:
CAT score = (Candidates CAT scaled score/300) *80
Merit list preparation:
37.5% weightage will be given to your overall scaled score and that is calculated as:
CAT score = (Candidates CAT scaled score/300) *37.5
WAT carries 10% weightage and PI carried 37.5% weightage.
Your profile carries 15% and the breakdown is as follows:
Graduation: 5%
Work experience: 5%
Extra curricular activities: 5%
Your 12th marks are asseessed as follows:
Marks obtained (in %)              Formula used
<=65                                                       0
>65                                                  (x-65) *5/35
Your Graduation marks are assessed as follows:
Marks obtained (in %)          Formula used
<=65                                                  0
>65 and <=85                              (x-65) *5/20
>85                                                      5
In short, if you can manage 95%, you can get a seat here

May be this can help you:

Quantitative Aptitude covers almost 30% of the CAT question paper. QA can be categorised into Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry and Advanced Mathematics. Practise chapter by chapter and develop mental calculations. Like practise more of basic summation, subtraction, fractions and tables. Numbers, Percentage, Profit and Loss, Simple and Compound Interest, Ratio, Proportionality, Time-Distance, Time-Work, Mixtures, Averages, Partnership, Permutation and Combinations, Probability, Set Theory, Progression and Series, Line, Angles, Triangles, Quadrilaterals, Polygon, Circles, Ares, Volume, Height and Distance, Coordinate Geometry, Basic Trigonometry are few important topics.

Preparation tips:

Because this section involves mathematics and takes most of your time, your focus should be on solving the problems efficiently in the beginning. Even if it takes time, practise upto perfection. Practise as many questions as you can in the conventional way. As and when you get a grip on the subject, you can go for short cuts. Memorise tables, square roots, cube roots, conversion from percent to fraction, etc. Solve sample papers on Mathematics. In the beginning, do not worry about the time it takes. As you practise, you will get the hang of the subject and it will be easier for you.

In Verbal Ability session, command on your English, Grammar, Vocabulary, Understanding of the given paragraph are of more importance. Reading English NewsPaper will also help you in your preparation.

Preparation tips:

Read articles from time to time. Follow newspapers, magazines, and watch the news channels and browse the internet to keep yourself updated. You will need a lot of reading to help you in the comprehension section. You will need speed to help you in this section and you can achieve that only by thorough practise and reading. Take time to understand the question because most answers are interlinked.

Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning needs to be practised as much as possible. Comparison of data, Data Analysis, taking clues, interpreting missing data, coming to conclusions and making future projections will be covered under this Category. The questions here are interlinked and so if you get one formula correct, cracking the next few questions will be easy. So it's important to memorise and practise formulae. You should cover topics like Data tables, Data Charts, Bar Diagrams, Pie Charts, Graphs, Data Comparison and Analysis.

Preparation tips:

As this is the most tricky section, this needs a lot of practise. Solve as many sample papers as possible to get the hang of the section. Make notes when required. Regular practise can help you understand and solve the questions easily as time goes on.

Overall,once you know the syllabus, it's easier from there on.Go through the previous papers to analyse and prepare a comprehensive plan and set priorities according to the importance of different topics across sections. Customise your own study plan based on your strengths and weaknesses. Gauge your preparation from time to time by taking mock tests. Solve questions to check your levels of preparation but not to set any targets. Remember, its ok to have cheat days and relax. But make sure you have a plan and stick to it for the next few months

Hi Saurabh,

You have decent chances of getting a call from Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management, IIT Bombay. However, try to improve your final year CGPA as minimum eligibility criteria to get a call is 60% or 6.5 CGPA minimum. Moreover, your CAT percentile needs to be at least 98 percentile and above to expect a call from SJMSOM. Though they give 80% weightage to CAT percentile in selection process, they also give 5% weightage to class 12th percentage and 5% to graduation score. Remaining is for diversity and work experience which you don't have currently. So, try improving your graduation CGPA and get a really good CAT percentile to expect a call from SJMSOM.

Good Luck.
