Sharavathi Dental College and Hospital (SDCH) was started in 1992 in Shimoga, Karnataka. Located in an ample piece of ground of 18 acres, SDCH has been one of the leading institute in the dental education for more than three decades. Education quality is high as the college is recognised by the Dental Council of India (DCI) and National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). At present, SDCH facilitate 251 students with a faculty of 171 to make sure that the institution provides a favourable ground to practice for dental students. The institute offers 6 courses under 2 degree programmes focusing on different specialisations of dentistry.
In terms of facilities, SDCH has many recent features for carrying out its academics. The college library is at its best with more than 5,000 textbooks in its collection on every specialty of dentistry. It also provided for a digital library so that students can have easy access to numerous publications on the internet. The college has arrangements for boys and girls and they can accommodate more than 200 boys and more than 400 girls. These hostels have study halls, recreation centres and play grounds and thus, provide appropriate aerial for academic and recreation. The institute provides a complete curriculum for dental education and training, BDS and various specialisation courses in the MDS. The BDS programme which is the basic on which the dental education is built has an intake capacity of one hundred seats. Sharavathi Dental College and Hospital is one of the premier institutions for dental education, it has become popular in Shimoga, Karnataka. The Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and Master's in Dental Sciences (MDS) are offered there. The institution's admission procedure, conducted annually, scrutinizes all candidates of sufficient merit.
The admission processes of SDCH are mainly directed through national level entrance examinations. In the case of the BDS courses, candidates seeking to join it need to get qualified in the National Eligibility-cum-entrance Test - NEET exam. Likewise for the MDS programs, only candidates who clear NEET MDS exam are deemed eligible for any of the MDS programs. As a result of such entrance examination processes, most capable students attain entry into the particular college.
The basic eligibility criterion for the BDS program is the successful completion of 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as compulsory subjects. Candidates must have passed the NEET examination with a qualifying score. For MDS programs, candidates must have completed their BDS degree from a recognized university and qualified the NEET MDS examination. The application process differs based on the course:
For BDS Program:
1. Attend NEET-UG examination conducted by NTA.
2. Clear NEET-UG through achieving the mandatory cut-off marks.
3. Seek state and central counseling whichever is applicable to them.
4. Apply at VSPM Dental College in case one gets allotted there.
5. In case the seat has been allotted then the student need to report in the college. And after which admission formalities would be undertaken along with documents verification.
For MDS Courses:
1. NEET-MDS offered by the National Board of Examinations (NBE)
2. Obtain qualification in NEET-MDS, with marks on or above cut off.
3. Counseling for admission into MDS course by state and /or Central
4. Choose VSPM Dental College and preferred specialty in counseling
5. If allotted seat, finalize all admission formalities at college

BDS: SDCH offers approved intake of 100 seats for Bachelor of Dental Surgery. The entry is on merit basis considering performance in the NEET exam. Eligible candidate must have 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
