Shyam Shah Medical College Rewa Madhya Pradesh is one of the oldest medical colleges established in 1963 named as SSMC. In association with Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University Jabalpur, SSMC is recognized by the National Medical Commission or NMC. This college is affiliated to the government which provides a large number of medical courses in its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. There are 791 students enrolled at SSMC overall, and there are 172 faculty members. There are 24 courses in total, and there are 4 degree programmes. The college has specialisations in General Medicine, General Surgery, Eye Surgery, Child Health, and Anaesthesia, and bunlar and others.

Shyam Shah Medical College Rewa has diverse amenities that enhance student’s education and feels a gain. The college comprises of a boy’s hostel and a girl’s hostel, fitted with a mess, indoor games, outdoor facilities and internet. Of the many, Rushmore Literary Resource Center currently boasts to have in its collection more than, 17,936 books out of which are 13,342, textbooks and 4,594 reference book collection being housed in a centrally air conditioned building. There is a health center, gym, a number of sports grounds, computer laboratory, canteen, a hall for performances, and spacious, equipped labs. Also, guestrooms are provided for the guests like visiting faculties and students’ families which helps to innovate the campuses.

Medical courses are available in the college at the undergraduate level in MBBS and at postgraduate level in various MD and MS degree. MBBS is the prominent programme of SSMC Rewa which has an entry capacity of 150 students each year. The institution also offers post graduate training programmes for instance; MD General Medicine, MS General Surgery, MD Pediatrics, MS Ophthalmology etc. All graduate courses are offered full-time, and the duration of the programme takes between 3 to 6 years. All classes, the approved intake of SSMC Rewa is 791, thus the institution’s role in enhancing medical education in the area cannot be overemphasised.

Admission in SSMC Rewa follows on the basis of national level Entrance Examination. For the MBBS programme, Revision in Admission through National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) of the Central Govt. NEET PG scores determine the admissions for MD and MS courses in postgraduate level. Unfortunately, for the other candidates the process does not end here and the college conducts a counseling process in order to finalize the admission process. However it should be noted that the NEET UG 2024 result was declared on 4 June 2024 and there was an option of re-test on 23 June 2024 for candidates who gets grace marks. The new NEET PG entrance exam for the next academic year shall be conducted on 23rd June of the year 2024. As for the individual scholarships, the information is lacking; nevertheless, the college may provide different governmental scholarships for students in need. Many of our students who have graduated from SSMC Rewa have gone to serve the healthcare sector at large in India having produced many medical specialists.
