Yet, SMR College of Education, Pudukkottai which began in 2006 is also considered one of the best institutions preparing future educators. Spread over 15 acres of area, this affiliated college is situated in Thanjai Natarajan Nagar Mathur, Pudukkottai Dist., Tamil Nadu. Currently the college has 168 students, 16 faculties which makes appropriate environment for students who want to become teachers. 

This means that the SMR College of Education is a co educational institution that admits both male and female students to bright educationist in the society. At the moment the college is offering only one program of study, that is the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) programme for which the college has been given a precoscional capacity to admit one hundred students each year.

The college has a good number of facilities that are the college has installed them to improve on the learning facilities of the college. The large sized laboratories facilitate learning through practical’s made in physics, chemistry, botany and zoology essential for providing practical sessions when training teachers-to -be. The library is fully equipped with rich contents in form of books stack from all subjects, newspapers, magazines, reference, encyclopedias, government publications among other. For physical stamina and recreational activities, the college has a play ground of sufficient space for football, shuttle cock, tennis, kho-kho, indoor games like chess, carroms etc. There is also a Hall of Auditorium for meetings, seminars etc, Gym for workouts and health centre equipped with first aid facilities.

SMR College of Education offers mainly its B.Ed program which is a two year full time course. The idea of this program is simple – to prepare students with the qualities and knowledge that would qualify them as educators. The college has been approved for having 100 seats for B.Ed programme only in order to maintain good student-teacher ratio and quality education. Although there is only one course at the college, it covers all aspects of teacher training and offers detailed preparation for the profession’s modern realities.

The admission process at SMR College of Education includes merit with reference to the marks in the qualifying examination and/or in the entrance test. Admission policies in the college are composed of the policies formulated by the state government, Union Territory administration, and the affiliated university. Students are encouraged to visit college or call admissions office for specificities of the time line as they may differ every year.
