Smt. Jawala Devi College Of Education, Fatehgarh Sahib was started in the year of 2006 and it is one of the best co-educational institution of Punjab. This affiliated college is NAAC accredited and NCTE recognized institution certified by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. Located in a 1-acre compound, the college provides three unique education programs in its current student capacity of 214. Currently the institute has a total of thirteen members of faculty which helps the college maintain a standard student faculty ratio. Smt. Jawala Devi College of Education is a leading institution which strives to make excellence in the field of teacher training and prepares student for succeeding career in education.
The college provides student with different amenities to support academic and personal growth of the learners. The campus has a boys’ hostel and a girls’ hostel with the capacity of 150 students in each hostel. These hostels offer such basic necessities as canteen, telephone booth, and provision for hot water. For the sports lovers and those interested in fitness there is a latest satisfying and comfortable gymnasium measuring 3000 sq. ft.. The college library is well equipped with 7000 books consisting literature, general knowledge books, and the books related to the careers.
Also there are grounds for cricket football and volley ball two basket ball courts and indoor games like table tennis and carom. It has a computerized library, computerized Keith and Library, communication technology and modern teaching aids, IT infrastructure, elaborate and well equipped mess which provides multi-cuisine food and AC auditorium cum conference hall. Also offered are transport facilities, internet connection, well-equipped laboratories and a health care center with first aid services.
Smt. Jawala Devi College of Education has three full time courses in this field of Education. These programs include those that address various levels of teachers training that enables the students gain the right knowledge and skills to enable them excel in there professional practice in the teaching field. The total approved intake for all courses is 150 students and those of each programs is 50 students. It is however not possible to determine the current total number of graduates produced in the latest year however the concentrations presented by college in offering quality education and practical training give confidence in the preparation of the students to embrace future roles of educators.
The admission process of Smt. Jawala Devi College of Education defines that the students must be admitted according to their marks in the qualifying exam and/or entrance examinations. For the B.Ed program, the admissions are granted on merit of marks secured in the qualifying examination and or entrance test or any other mode as per the policy of the state government, UT Administration and the University.
The M.Ed program also has the same process of admission which depends on merit of the qualifying examination followed by entrance exam they or the state government of the particular University or UT Administration. The D.El.Ed program also has a merit based admission policy where marks related to the qualifying exam and/ or entrance test, any other norms which may be laid down by the state government/UT Administration are taken into consideration.
Despite this, the specific dates of admission and successful exams or courses that this institute takes are not given and one has to check the college website or better still seek a word from the admission office for updated information. However, information on scholarships for students and famous foremen are still unknown at the moment.
