One of the prominent law institutes in legal education in Kolkata is South Calcutta Law College, founded in 1970. It is situated at 6/1, Swinhoe Street. The College offers a total of three full-time courses in the field of law at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels on a full-time basis. These include two undergraduate programs at the UG level, BA LLB and BA LLB Hons, both five-year-long, and a postgraduate LLM program two years long. Students will get an in-depth course of study in the legal field. In that case, a full-time course is available for all. The Institution has been very selective about including any other course except for those having a base in legal studies. That means the institution is concentrating on a particular domain; here in this case, it's legal studies.

The admission process of South Calcutta Law College is mainly based on the entrance examinations conducted by the University of Calcutta.Admissions to the BA LLB course and BA LLB Hons course are made in line with the merit list prepared based on the entrance examination conducted by the University of Calcutta. Similarly, in the case of the LLM course, admission is done through an admission test conducted by the University of Calcutta itself.
