Thanjavur Medical College, Thanjavur (TMC) is one of the oldest and premier medical college which was started in 1959. This college is affiliated to the government of Tamil Nadu and is conducting medical education for the past more than six decades in Thanjavur. TMC is recognised by NMC and provides its students with numerous courses connected to the sphere of medicine. This college per se take a total of 1,814 students for all its courses offered while the faculty core consist of 105 members which makes the college environment appropriate for students who wish to venture into the field of medical field. TMC comprises of 28 courses under six degrees: MBBS, MD, MS, M.Ch, DM and Diploma, for different specialties in the health sector.
Thanjavur Medical College has various amenities that would help the learners in their academic and personal development. The admission of students to Thanjavur Medical College and Hospital majorly open their doors to students who sit for national level entrance exams. For MBBS programme, the admissions are open and are offered in accordance with National Eligibility cum Entrance Test only. University programmes offered to students include MD and MS courses for which students are selected through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Post Graduates (NEET-PG). Masters level course like M.Ch and DM have conditions wherein the candidates have to pass in National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Super Specialty (NEET-SS). The Thanjavur Medical College in Thanjavur is a college of repute with a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and super-specialty programs in medicine. The process of admission into TMC is competitive, and the procedures followed are strictly according to national regulatory bodies. The students, for different courses, are primarily admitted through national-level entrance tests. The NEET for the 45 seats in the MBBS was considered for admission. Owing to all admissions for MD and MS postgraduate programs being maintained via NEET-PG, the score obtained will be applicable for admissions in different branches. Degree-wise Admission Process
MBBS: Admission in MBBS is given on the basis of qualifying NEET scores. The college has a permission for an intake of 150 seats for the flagship programme. The candidate is required to have appeared for 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology and must qualify in NEET.
MD/MS: TMC offers a number of MD and MS programmes, including General Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, General Surgery, Anaesthesiology, Paediatrics, Ophthalmology, ENT, etc. Admission to these courses is through NEET-PG, with the number of seats varying for each specialization from 2 to 17.
M.Ch: The super-specialty courses are Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Surgical Gastroenterology, Surgical Oncology, Vascular Surgery, and Pediatric Surgery. Admission is done on the basis of the score in NEET-SS. The intake will be 1-4 per specialization.
DM: TMC offers Neurology and CardiologY. Admissions through NEET-SS. The seat intake will be 4 for Neurology and 2 for Cardiology.
Diploma: The college also offers a Diploma in Ophthalmology, whereby admission is based on ranking in NEET-PG, for which the approved intake is 4.
