Thapar Polytechnic College, set up in year 1956, is located in Patiala in Punjab, India. This affiliated college lies on a large area of 6.9 acres and the college is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Thapar Polytechnic College takes a total student intake of 895 and a faculty of 8; it has 5 diploma programmes in several fields of engineering. Accommodation, especially for the college students, is provided through different hostels that the college has specifically for boys and girls respectively. The boys hostel has 40 beds in 10 rooms to accommodate 120 students The girls hostel has 100 beds in 10 rooms for 30 students. Both hostels essentially have security, TV rooms, water purifiers, geysers for hot water during winter amongst other amenities. In addition, the college’s aim of producing a well-rounded student is reflected in the colleges facilities such as a synthetic athletic track, an indoor badminton court, a cricket ground, a football field, a hockey ground, a volleyball court and a basketball court and table tennis room. Students get the best range of coaches from full-time physical training instructor in a specific sport.

Thapar Polytechnic College offers a total of 5 full time diploma courses having a span of 3 academic sessions. These programmes apply to different branches of engineering that allows students to get a good grounding in their chosen disciplines. The approved intake for all the courses combined is 300 students per year which proves that this particular college has the ability to build up a good many number of young engineers. The courses are Diploma in Computer Science and Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, and so on.

The admissions to all the diploma level courses are open based on the merit of matriculation (X Std).
