Usha Latchumanan College of Education was established in the year 1999 and is one of the most leading educational institutions in Puducherry. This is a co-educational institute under the Pontifix of Pondicherry University which aims at preparing future educators. Located on a total campus area of 2.42 acres, the college enjoys NCTE recognition which speaks a lot about the quality teacher education this college intends to provide. At present, the college has 79 students and faculty of 11 members that make the educational setting collegial and nurturing for the students and professors.

Usha Latchumanan College of Education owns a package of modern facilities that are useful in facilitating the students’ learning process. Psychology, Physical science and Biological science laboratories are well equipped for practicals and Smooth functioning for the students. The big library has collection of books more than six thousand with separate reference section for lecturers. Technology implementation is well-articulated at college level since it possesses a computerised lab equipped with 25 computers fitted with internet connection, printers as well as different types of audio- visual apparatus. For extra curriculars, learning resource centre starts with the multipurpose auditorium with total seating for 200 that is particularly useful for seminars and cultural activities. Active players of various sports activity will benefit from the 10, 000 square meter playground which will be mainly for tenniquoits and volleyball. The college also has hostel facilities for both sexes; each having the capacity to house up to one hundred students.

Usha Latchumanan College of Education offers two full-time courses. The new programmes include a two-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) programme and a three-year Bachelor of Vocational Education in Agriculture. The B.Ed programme, under which the whole framework of the college is built, has an approved annual student capacity of one hundred. There are 79 total students admitted across all the courses offered within the institution, however this varies from year to year, as well course demand. This is why the college was firmly committed to the delivery of these specialised programmes in order to shape skilled educators as well as producers and agri-business personnel.

Due to the management`s policy on fair and merit-based system, the admission process of the Usha Latchumanan College of Education is very rigorous. The B.Ed programme admission is taken based and CET organised for all private colleges of education in the Pondicherry Union Territory. However, 50% of the seats are funded by the Government of Puducherry through CENTAC, the Centralised Admission Committee. That way, the eligibility criteria is achieved and ensures an efficient and fair recruiter attracted strong- willed aspiring teachers within the region. 

The college insisted on all-round development of students and involved them into many awareness programmes and other activities. Works and performances with audiences from the performing arts department at Pondicherry University have made meaningfully emphatic statements.
