896ml of a mixture of CO and CO2 weigh 1.28g at NTP. Calculate the volume of CO2
Hey,
Let mass of CO is = x g, So clearly the mass of Co2 will be (1.28 - x) g.
Now moles of CO are = x/ 28
Similarly moles of CO2 are = 1.28-x/44, We know that at NTP the volume occupied by 1 mole gas is 22.4 Litre = 22400 ml.
Hence, 896 ml is occupied by moles = 896/22400 = 0.04
But we know that total moles are x/28 + 1.28-x/44 = 0.04
So x = 0.84, hence CO2 weight is 0.44 g.
Now moles of CO2 will be, 0.44/44 = 0.01, and also the volume occupied by these moles is 22400*0.01 = 224 ml
Hope it helps.
