Hello, hope you are doing well!

It depends upon what kind of job do you seek in the government hospital as a doctor.

  • For JR (Junior Residency) and SR (Senior Residency) most colleges have interviews. You may check their websites or the website of the State health department of that state.
  • Some institutes like AIIMS may take both written examination and interview for residency.
  • Many Central government hospital posts are filled by doctors from CHS (Central Health Services). You can check the UPSC website if your want to join CHS[1].
  • Most state government appoint Medical Officers (for PHCs, CHCs, Sadar hospitals etc.) through their own exams. You can check their health department website or website of their State public service commission.
