Are there any seats for CSE in category 2, 3 etc in VIT, Vellore?

I had to run through some numbers and I now have an estimate of the seat distribution for Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) at VIT Vellore.

So, in total during Phase-I, somewhere close to 10,000 registered for the counselling but since Computer Science got over by 4000 ranks and ECE also got over the following day, many students declined and only about 5000 students out of 20,000 attended the Phase-I counselling.

Now, the typical intake for Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) is as follows,

B.Tech Computer Science Engineering (CSE)

i) in 2012 - 518

ii) in 2013 - 695

iii) in 2014 - 739

iv) in 2015 - 799

v) in 2016 - 750 (Projected)

Category 1 seats are over, and the intake was close to 500.

Category 2 will go on during Phase-II, there are no rock solid numbers per se but usually around a 70 - 100 seats are added, this will almost fill up category 2. But many students from Phase-I have also registered for Phase-II just for the sake of Computer Science, so the number of seats may be stretched a bit.

Category 3 & Category 4 will only have a handful of seats because some of the seats in Computer Science will be reserved for the Non-resident Indians, International students, Management students, etc. I have a feeling that this time we won’t be even seeing Category 4.

So summing up and converting them into percentiles, there are your rough estimates

Category 1 = 65%

Category 2 = 10% - 15%

Category 3 = 7% - 10 %

Category 4 = 2% - 5%

Miscellaneous = 5%
