1)Why join private engineering colleges and quality of students?

i see that most of the answers over here criticize private colleges for the low quality of students when compared to govt. colleges. I dont think so,in the current scenario the number of govt. colleges say NITs are increasing day by day,but are these colleges at par with the older and reputed govt. Colleges, definetly NO. i myself could have got into many of the newer NITs and many other govt. Colleges but opted for a private engineering college instead

So the first category of students that get into private colleges are the ones who miss top govt. colleges (IITs and a few NITs) by a small score? One cannot categorize these students as non intellectual or dumb. These students form the majority of the crowd that get into these private engineering colleges. Hence for these students private engineering colleges provide the opportunities to make something out of their 4 years and not repeat the mistakes they did earlier. The second category of student is the one which get into private engineering colleges by so called 'management quota', but definitely if you are a category 1 student with set goals for your engineering life then these category 2 students cannot distract you,if you talk about govt. colleges then the reserved category of students(SC,ST etc) act as category 2 students mentioned above and decrease the quality of students in govt. colleges.Hence joining a private engineering college or a govt. engineering college does not guarantee you success.

2) The higher fees problem

Govt. colleges are funded by the government hence have lower fees but the private engineering colleges are owned by business men etc. They have higher fees to maintain the facilities provided to the students. After this its totally up to the students to decide on how to use these facilities.Hence the fact is you must have deep pockets to join private colleges (some of these colleges also provide scholarships to well performing students).

3) Placements

who says private engineering colleges have poor placelements? Many top private engineering colleges in india have placements which are at par or better than many government colleges.

4)Facilities

Top government colleges provide you with the best infrastructure, same is true for top private engineering colleges also. They provide you with the best infrastructure( though with a higher fees) required. Many top private engineering colleges are increasing their involvement in research activities.

Hence to conclude, top private engineering colleges are at par or better than many government colleges and there is no harm in joining one.

But at the end It all boils down to your goals in life.if have set goals for your future joining a private engineering college or a government college should not serve as an obstacle.
