Can i achieve a good score by on focusing more on lr and verbal section than on quant because my quant is very weak
Hi Pranjal
Yes you can score better marks if you are weak in one section. But you should make your other sections more strong I.e. RC ,LR and DI. But keep in mind that there will be sectional cut offs too.
So work hard on making your strong field even more stronger whereas don't cut the chord entirely with Quant section because few questions will be easy too and those are direct question so don't ignore quant its my suggestion though you can solve easy questions and practice shortcuts and formulae too.
Good luck for your career ahead.
Thanks
Hi Pranjal,
If you clear the sectional percentile which is above 90%ile generally, you can focus on scoring 97.5+ in DILR and VA. However, let me advise you that CAT pattern is now shifting more towards complex DILR sets so if you are relying on DILR make sure to be able to solve any case you come across.
Hope this helps,
All the best!
Hello Pranjal,
If you dream is to land into IIM , 75 percentage is necessary in each section to get through.
So, for that you need to score accordingly to acquire those marks to get through first stage to GD PI process.
Each section 75 percentile for IIM and other B School account you overall percentile.
Hope it clears your doubts
All the best
You definitely can do that.
The only problem with that approach is if you do not clear the sectional cutoff for other sections no good Bschool will give you calls.
And who knows the section you are targeting might end up as a tougher one in the actual paper.
So it's better to have a holistic approach and work on all sections rather than focusing on any one of them.
I hope this solves your query.
All the best.

Hi Pranjal,
All IIMs have sectional cutoffs as well as overall cutoffs while selecting candidates or shortlisting them for GDPI rounds. In regard to this, it is advisable that you target clearing the sectional cutoffs which are generally around80-90 percentile in each section.
In general, it is advisable that you score 90 percentile + in all the three sections to be on the safer side and meet the eligilibility criteria for shortlisting by IIMs. Over and above this you can use the LR and Verbal sections as your score maximisers. A 98%ile + in both these sections with a 90+ in quant should land your overall percentile above 98.
If you are looking at the least possible score in Quant, make sure it does not fall below 85 percentile at the least. Otherwise you may loose shortlists just because of not clearing Quant even though you have overall 97%ile +.
All the best.
