Yes definitely you can get admission. You need to do exceptionally well in CAT for that. The tentative percentiles required for top colleges are:
IIM A - 99.8+
IIM B - 99.7+
IIM C - 99.7+
IIM L - 99+
IIM K - 98.7+
IIM I - 98+
IIM S - 97+
MDI Gurgaon - 96.5+
New IIMs - 96+
SP Jain - 97+
FMS - 99+
SJSOM, IIT Bombay- 99+
All the best!
Considering your academic profile, to get an admission in top 20 B schools, you need to get a percentile of 85+. However to get an admission in top 5 colleges like IIM Ahmedabad,IIM Bangalore,IIM Calcutta,IIM Lucknow etc., you must get a percentile above 97 percentile
To get calls from old IIMs like IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta you need to score atleast above 99.7 percentile. Then to get calls from rest of the old IIMs like IIm Lucknow, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Indore, IIM Shillong you need to score atleast above 98 percentile and finally to get calls from all new IIMs and ultra new IIMs you need to get atleast 95+ percentile. Even with 90+ percentile, you can get calls from various other top private colleges like SP Jain, IITs, MDI Gurgaon, GIM Goa, TAPMI etc. but to get calls from IIMs, FMS, JBIMS you will need to atleast score above 95 percentile.
But scoring only will not make you get calls from IIMs as there are many other parameters involved to get a call for second round of WAT and interview. After the CAT exam result, all the colleges in which you have applied including IIMs makes a merit list to call students for the second round of interview, GD and WAT which is made in the basis of your aggregate score and which is based on different parameters such as CAT marks, 10th, 12th and graduation percentage, work experience, engineer or non-engineer, gender etc. whose weightage vary according to different colleges.
As you have an overall average academic record so to get into top 20 b-schools you will need to push forward your CAT percentile way forward much more so that you can call for the second round.
Then after you go through the second round of interview and WAT another merit list is made on the basis of the new aggregate score which also consists of the interview, GD and WAT marks. Generally, in this aggregate score interview and CAT marks have the highest weightage. Weightages of academic record is further reduced and you can catch up easily with your excellent performance in WAT and interview.
So, this is an overall long and hectic process but you will get to know about it in detail later when you will become the part of the process. Right now the essential thing is to prepare for CAT exam which is the first step in order to get into any IIMs and the most difficult step.
Feel free to ask if you have any more queries. All the best!!
