It belongs to more of chemical engineering and also has some parts related to mechamical engineering. It is related to lot of metals and materials. But it has some courses of mechanical too like material science, deformation of materials, mechanical properties of materils, heat treatment, etc. It helps you to meet the increasing requirements of Indian Industry.

Metallurgy is itself a stream in engineering it is a separate core branch it does not comes under any other branch, in general it is a subject of mechanical engineering but you study it like a separate core branch because many company require candidates with complete knowledge in metallurgy.
