Dear Megha, yes. For admission to IIT, you need to appear for both JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. If you want to study in an IIT, you need to appear for both JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. JEE Advanced is the entrance examination for admission to IITs, NITs and GFTIs. To be eligible for JEE Advanced, you need to qualify in JEE Mains. They are the only exams for admission in Btech and BSc(in some of them) in the IITs. The JEE is the only exam conducted for admission into these premier institutes. If you are not aware about them or the selection process, then here it is.

JEE conducted in two phases, JEE mains for admission into NITs and GFTIs and those students who clears the JEE mains are further allowed to take JEE advanced. Then when you clear the JEE advanced, the admission process begin. However, clearing any of these two exams does not means a sure shot admission into these colleges. After you clearing the cutoffs, rank list is prepared and admission is given on the basis of rank.
