Sandy Soil - 80 percent or more sand + 20 percent less silt or clay

Has poor water-holding capacity



Clay Soil - 40-50 percent clay + 50-60 percent silt  + little amount of sand may be present

Has high water holding capacity



Loam soil - 20 percent clay + 40 percent sand + 40 percent silt

Has moderate water holding capacity
