Hi there,

Water quality degradation is mostly a result of diffuse source contaminated and the spatial contaminations and temporal variability associated with these sources.

Freshwater degradation occurs when the physical, chemical, or biological. characteristics of water become harmful to the environment or organisms, including.

Water pollution occurs when harmful substance  often chemicals or microorganisms contaminate a stream, river, lake, ocean, aquifer, or other body of water, degrading water quality and rendering it toxic to humans or the environment

Factors responsible for degradation of water are :

  • Acid Precipatation
  • Sewage and waste  water
  • Oil pollutants
  • Industrial waste
  • Dumping
  • Global warming
  • Burning of Fossil fuels etc.

Thank you :)

Hey!

Some of the factors responsible for degradation of water are as follows:

  • Industrial Waste:  Water contamination is caused by industries and industrial sites all over the world. Many industrial sites generate waste in the form of dangerous chemicals and pollutants, and while some are controlled, others lack suitable waste management systems. Industrial waste is occasionally thrown into surrounding freshwater systems. When industrial waste is not properly processed (or worse, not treated at all), it has a high risk of polluting the freshwater systems with which it comes into touch.Industrial trash from fields, mines, and manufacturing plants can end up in rivers, streams, and other bodies of water that flow straight to the sea.
  • Global Warming: In terms of water contamination, rising temperatures as a result of global warming are a big worry. Water temperatures are rising as a result of global warming, which can harm aquatic species. When huge die-offs occur, the water supply is severely polluted, worsening the problem. There are several simple things you can do every day to assist minimise global warming, which will help to lessen water pollution. Recycling, carpooling, and utilising CFL lights in your house are some of these options.
  • Radioactive Wastes: Radioactive waste from facilities that generate nuclear energy can be immensely dangerous to the environment and must be properly disposed. This is due to the fact that uranium, the material utilised in nuclear energy production, is a very toxic substance.
  • Agriculture: Farmers frequently use chemicals and pesticides to protect their crops from bacteria and insects. These pollutants can affect animals, plants, and humans when they seep into groundwater. Furthermore, when it rains, the chemicals mingle with the precipitation, which then pours into rivers and streams, which eventually filter into the ocean, polluting the water even more.
  • Seewage and Wastewater: Even after treatment, harmful chemicals, bacteria, and pathogens can be present in sewage and wastewater. Each household's sewage and wastewater is dumped into the sea along with fresh water. The germs and bacteria discovered in that wastewater cause sickness in humans and animals alike, and hence are a source of health problems.
